Mount Sinai will remain holding site for upcoming JC: MOE
Some parents had complained that the Mount Sinai site, at the former Raffles Junior College campus, was \"too far\" for students. However, the Education Ministry says other options such as the former ITE Ang Mo Kio campus, are not suitable.

SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced that Mount Sinai will remain the holding site for a new junior college, until its own campus is ready by the end of 2019. The new junior college will take in its first batch of students in 2017, from Catholic High, Singapore Chinese Girls' School and CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' School.
MOE informed parents of affected students on Friday (Jun 5) of its decision, through email and text message. The decision comes following a review of holding sites closer to the Bishan area, after some parents complained the Mount Sinai site, at the former Raffles Junior College campus, was too far for students.
The use of the Mount Sinai holding site is due to a delay in the building of a new junior college in Bishan, and because the first choice of a holding site for the unnamed junior college was no longer available.
One option for a holding site was the former ITE Ang Mo Kio campus, which MOE initially ruled out as being too small. But it agreed to re-examine the feasibility of the site, after the dialogue with parents at the end of May. After re-assessing the situation, MOE concluded the ITE Ang Mo Kio site was indeed not suitable. For one, it has no lecture theatres. It also has fewer common spaces compared to the Mount Sinai site, MOE said.
The new junior college will offer the six-year Integrated Programme, where students spend the first four years in their secondary schools and the next two years at the junior college.
Some 1,200 students will attend the junior college at the holding site when it opens. They are currently enrolled in the Integrated Programme in the three secondary schools, and are between secondary one and secondary three.

Shame on MOE. Most parents heard the news through the media first and not through text nor email in the first instance. Why go through the press to communicate ? Such high handedness and disrepect for fellow citizens! What happened to the promise to address the questions and inconsistencies brought up in the dialogue. No use taking copious notes when there is no intention to be transparent and fair!

:goodpost: shocked at the bull-dozing! The Zaobao journalist nailed this succinctly that these days people do not accept decisions without clear explanations and do not appreciate the way MOE addressed the issue. She uses the analogy of squeezing toothpaste and how moe only released data bit by bit and all these just don't gel and do not provide a sufficiently robust explanation at all. -

I must say I may not be surprised at the outcome if the constraints are indeed challenging but…

HSK will personally oversee the taskforce to resolve the outstanding issues (defects) of the DBSS.
Why? Because GE is coming and he needs to please the residents in Tampines, his GRC.
For the new IPJC, the affected parents are voters scattered all over Singapore.
