Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

If you are a Singaporean and persistent to join the top school, shift to within 1km to increase your chances.Hi,
I've just started evaluating primary schools and would like to ask for your opinion please. My child is born 2012 (dragon year) and we do not have an alumni sch. As a kiasu mum, im hoping to try the top schools which only have the 20 spaces left for phase 2B but that would require moving house and getting selected for PV. Like to know how many would actually do something so risky or most would just stay put in current home and choose the best sch in the neighbourhood? The best in my neighbourhood is Pei Chun but the kiasu-ness in me isnt keen.
Thanks for reading this!
At least you have 2B and 2C to try. -
Can anyone advise me is Pei Hwa or South View better?
I stay BT BATOK, south view us further but maybe can apply under phase 2A (2).
Pei Hwa may have to do PV but nearer.
Academical results which one better? I can’t find info and records. -

Whats wrong with PCPS ? It is a SAP school at least the top 20 school. Is still not good enough ??Hi,

Have you look at PCPS historical trend ? At phase 2B within 1km is 100% secured so far. But dragon might not be the case but chances should be high enough and save all the trouble, money and risk of failure with relocation.
Getting a chance to PV at PCPS is the difficult part at about 30% chance only. They chose pv mostly within 1km mostly and maybe a few within 2km too.
You can try to apply for PV at various school and see which accept you before deciding to move house.
Moving house or rental is such a big decision and I am sure all hope to get the school u want. Do not pin all hope to get into the top school. Have plan at each phases in case you fail .... is very stressful when ballot come into picture and worst fail and no other good school for the next phase.
My advice is just go for the school that give you the highest chance to get in, dragon year is not easy.
At the end of day, is not the school that count. If a child is good enough, he/she can excel in any school and go on to GEP program and have all TOP school opening their doors inviting them in. -

Even after successful application to be PV, you would have to keep calling the school for chances to chalk up hours. Sometimes even for 1 or 1.5 hour, you still have to take it. -

Can i ask a naive question? i have been trying to understand what are the differences between branded school vs neighbourhood school but still i have yet to come to any conclusion besides the obvious, such as more well known, more balloting for these school…is it really a hype/parabola effect or there is some sense in it.
have been following the news since years back and attending the open house of various primary schools where each school showcase their achievement. After a while, one realize that it is actually very confusing where each of them trying to promote various learning style and ideas…
any comments? -

As a bag, they serve primarily the same function. -
Let’s put it this way… have you seen any of our leaders’ child entering neighbourhood school ?
