Hello all

I am new here πŸ˜„

My DS is born Oct 2011, we stay 1 - 2 km from Rulang.
Does PV helps?

Any advise is much appreciated.
If you get selected as a PV (and that's a big IF), it helps you to get into Phase 2B.
However, there's a high possibility that you won't have a chance at 1-2km as Rulang has to ballot at <1km for several years. This year, SC <1km fill the places exactly while last year, SC <2km fill the places exactly.

You can take your chances but it's probably a good idea not to waste your time unless you intend to move within 1km.

Yes we have timed driving there in the morning is about 10-15min but returning home is a little longer. Logistic wise is more troublesome when cca starts and I gotta pick #2 from kindy as well. Does cca start in p2 or p3?

Some schools introduce cca in p2, but compulsory from p3.

Attended a talk and one of the panel speakers, who is a primary school principal, said that cca is NOT compulsory in primary schools.

Can anyone confirm?

No, standardizing Cca rule does not apply across the board.
because different primary schools : set different Cca rule
some schools may start from P3, others start at a much higher level

perhaps in Janet child's school : Cca compulsory, from P3

But, in my child's primary school : Cca is compulsory, starting from P4 onwards, not P3.
In my child's school, attending Cca from P1 to P3 (lower primary) : is Optional, NOT compulsory

if one is not sure :
suggest that best go back to your child's school, confirm with the Principal there, whether Cca is compulsory or not in his / her school, and if compulsory, start from which level then is it compulsory ?
Principal in respective school can't go wrong, right ?

fyi
there are different types of schools. Some have thick traditional history that serve several decade(s), while others are just new kid that come on board, ie. brand new schools

for brand new schools -
their first batch of candidates is only the Primary 1s intake.
Cca may not be so clear cut, nor defined properly yet, perhaps still in the midst of fine-tuning. So maybe for such schools, Principal may say Cca not compulsory, for time being, until they have stabilized their core, academic curriculum first, after that then start to look into stabilize Cca activities.

I remembered when my kids were in Primary School, CCA is not compulsory. So they don't spend much time on CCA.

For those who want to DSA via sports, they will spend more time on their CCA (but at expense of academics).

Hi Vivian1107
We stay Jurong West, within 2km Rulang, seems like slim chance to get in. Our alternative school is West Grove which is within 1km.

I have a girl born in 2012 (dragon girl), already feeling anxious…

i have the option to put her in my alma mater which is like the 3rd popular school (based on number of applicants) or i can do pv in the #1 school (based on number of applicants) to be in phase 2b (within 1km).

So many things to worry, like wat if still need to ballot in phase 2b although past years all balloting in phase 2b are for more than 2km. Then worry dunno my daughter can take the stress mah if its a more popular school (more remedials etc).

Hi

Please don't overstress yourself, you have time on your side unlike those who are 2015 thread.

I will leave your ranking by popularity aside.

1. You have a choice under 2A (your old school or we can call it school A),
2. If you actually prefer another school (school B) and do not mind doing PV to get into the school B, you can apply for PV and assume you got accepted (we are taking out the equation on whether the school accept the application)
3. In the year of registration, say you apply under 2A for school A and got in, you can always apply only for School B when you are sure there is no balloting needed for you within 1km (chances are that it should not have balloting as you mentioned its only for >2km).

You also have ample time to find out if the culture of school B and the amount of workload and attend open house, if any. At the same time, you should know better of School A since you are from the school.

Being parents, we tend to worry too much about our children's future.

Hi,

Would like to join if its a active community member however the school we are aiming for does not fall under the GRC but falls under 1-2KM does it mean that we will have to apply under phrase 2C instead of 2b?

Thanks!

Eh, I think it's GRL - grassroots leader, not just member le.

Note that they had tweaked the rules a bit for kids registering in 2016 and later.

1. Parents have to be grassroots leaders for at least 2 years (last time 1 year).
2. They will get priority only in schools in the constituencies where they live (not where they choose to serve and where they live).

My prior understanding is that schools must fall under the GRC where they serve but the above (taken from Asiaone) seems to differ a bit. Parents who wish to use this route pls check directly with the GR - they know why parents come to volunteer, no big secret.

Hi,

Thanks! Then it will be diffcult for us as the school we are aiming for near us does not fall under the same GRC. Hence meaning we are not able to fall under phrase 2b when we register? As our place is new we just shifted in last year. Will the GRC has the list of primary school ?
Hi,

If u are registering in 2017, U need to be confirmed as a GRL by 30/6/15 or 1/7/15.
Hi,

I have a boy born in 2012, but wondering whether it is too late to sign up through the GRL route?
Please advise! πŸ™‚ πŸ˜“
