how do you feel about 30 month rule ?

this year (2015 : kids born 2009) happen to be a year of very low competition rate.

      in Phase 2B :
ACS Junior conduct balloting outside 1 km, instead of the expected less than 1 km trend.

      in Phase 2C:
SCGS conduct balloting outside 2 km, instead of the expected less than 1 km past years' trend.

      balloting info

The trend for ACS Junior is balloting for > 2km in Phase 2B and < 1km in Phase 2C. Last year was an exception.

ACS J usually goes for balloting but so does ACS P. Except this year, exact no. apply within 1 Km for both phase 2B and 2C for ACS P. So no balloting.
ACS J has 59 applicants for 58 places within 1 km. Last person applied at closing time. I suppose the person thought balloting for 1 in 58 places better than balloting for 1 in 29 places since ACS P and J 1km overlap about 50%.
I think the less competition is there but parents being Kiasu will want to try their luck in a better school if they think they got good chance.

I think some places will tally with your IC. They will probably raise flags when it’s not indicated?

if not wrong, p2b in acsp somehow has for a few years the exact no of applicants. I was like wow 😄

Just registered with a school at phase 2C. We used a current address (living for 5+ years) which happens to be within 1km of the school, but actually we’re moving into a nearby BTO flat later this year. This new BTO address is apparently between 1km and 2km of the school. Do you think we’ll get into a trouble? This school has no balloting for SC (my child is SC).

No intention to "trick" the system or anything, but just didn’t know all these things like DPD home-distance category priority and the 30 months staying rule (just found out)… Thanks for your advice.

It really depends on whether your current address has given you any extra advantage over others in the specific Phase of the exercise. If the school was oversubscribed in that Phase, then it is likely that your 1km address did earn you that place. Otherwise, you have nothing to worry about.

In your case, since your school was oversubscribed but there is no balloting for any SC under any distance, it means you got in by virtue of your citizenship, and not by distance. So the 30-month rule should not apply to you.

He/she might have regretted his/her decision to do a last minute switch.

Hi, does the 30-month rule allows for the change of existing address to the new address which is within 1km radius from the school admitted?
