All About Full-Time Maids

Hi Peapot and all
Well I manage to get rid of my Indon and am now with the filipina. Have enjoyed a weeks peace. I think I may need to get yr agents name as a standby. Well this filipina has been transfered twice, I met her when I interviewed the Indon 2half mths back, her 1st employer was furious that she bot another h/p wthout their knowledge when they are already keeping her other phone. Lasted 6 mths there and another 2 mths in the 2nd home.
Like all the past filipinas I had, my mum will keep their h/p till evening whereby they can use it after work and pass it back in the morning.
Today she asked me to call the agent, mentioned that she may not b able to handle the housework. Somehow, I know that its not the housework but the stress that she has to ask for her phone everynite.
I decided to compromise and told her to take back the phone and laid some terms for her ⦠now she decided to work on. Reminded her that she has only 530 left to pay b4 she see her full salary and if I catch her using the phone during working hours, I will not hesitate to take action.
I hate being threatened or giving in to these maids but Im really very stressed out the last 2 months going to the agent. I just want some PEACE! She was booted out by her employer and one phone confiscated by the agent, still addicted to H/P! After my nice lecture, i dont expect her to keep up and will probably catch her at the back door using the phone, no point keeping the phone as she will be using other maids phone or the public phone when she goes to market, if she cant exercise responsibility then i will have to change again. :x :x
Sometimes I wonder why they cant be like the China girls, so focused on their work n nothing can stop them frm making money -

The MOM site says you have to give 21 days notice to your maid if you do not intend to keep her in your employ. Not sure how strict they are about this.Could anyone kindly advise do I need to give my maid 7 days advance notice before I send her home? Is this a new requirement from MOM or is this just a fuss that my agent pull on me?
My maid has finished her 2-year contract already and was hoping to renew her contract with me but I have decided not to retain her as she has too many emotional baggages. I am afraid she may kick up a fracas if I gave her such long notice.
Does anyone has any agents' contact who does picking up of maid and sending her to airport for a fee?
Thanks for any advice.
I was advised by an agent that Filipina maids are very well-informed of their rights. There have been cases of maids who when sent to the airport without prior notice, kicked up a fuss after entering immigration. They refused to board the plane and insisted on calling the Philipines Embassy. Under such circumstances, they will be sent to the Embassy and the employer will not be able to hire another maid until this existing one is settled. -

Sometimes we just have to close one eye and loosen the grip a bit. As long as they can finish their tasks, they are free to do their own things. Afterall they're humans too and have basic social needs.moonee:

Yeah u r right I hate to give in also but sometimes we need to have middle way if things need to work out :x
The maid of my old neighbour switched to another employer b/c they were very strict to her and forbid her to talk to other maids

MOM is full of bs, to be kind.
MOM will also fault employer if maid after maid asks for transfer, like quoting they prefer to work in another situation, like not wanting to care for elderly, etc. Whose fault, according to MOM? Employer. -

Thanks for the link and update. I'd checked the MOM site about a month ago and on a different document they'd said 21 days notice. This MOM file was updated on 17 March so it's probably the most up to date. Although you'll notice that the 7 days notice is to the Controller. For employers, they have to \"give reasonable notice of repatriation\". That's open to interpretation because what's reasonable to me may not be reasonable to the maid.

Hi Si Si, the maid agency which i got my maid from asked me what is the time frame that i want in case either party wants to end the contract. It can be 1 week to 1 month, depending on the employer. In your case since you are afraid that she would become emotional, then you could tell her that your are not renewing her contract few days before and just compensate her with a months' salary?

My maid worked for me for 5 months and she wanted to send money back urgently to her family after calling her hubby. She had asked me for advance pay and wanted to pass to her Philippine agent who will bring back the money to her country. Should i trust her?
Thru my experience, the habit of advance payment will happen often after it is started. It happened to my helper. -
