All About Full-Time Maids

MOM is full of bs, to be kind.
MOM will also fault employer if maid after maid asks for transfer, like quoting they prefer to work in another situation, like not wanting to care for elderly, etc. Whose fault, according to MOM? Employer. -

Thanks for the link and update. I'd checked the MOM site about a month ago and on a different document they'd said 21 days notice. This MOM file was updated on 17 March so it's probably the most up to date. Although you'll notice that the 7 days notice is to the Controller. For employers, they have to \"give reasonable notice of repatriation\". That's open to interpretation because what's reasonable to me may not be reasonable to the maid.

Hi Si Si, the maid agency which i got my maid from asked me what is the time frame that i want in case either party wants to end the contract. It can be 1 week to 1 month, depending on the employer. In your case since you are afraid that she would become emotional, then you could tell her that your are not renewing her contract few days before and just compensate her with a months' salary?

My maid worked for me for 5 months and she wanted to send money back urgently to her family after calling her hubby. She had asked me for advance pay and wanted to pass to her Philippine agent who will bring back the money to her country. Should i trust her?
Thru my experience, the habit of advance payment will happen often after it is started. It happened to my helper. -

Si Si:
My maid saw my neighbour's maid ran off on Friday morning at 5am. It's really sour to hear such news. She cried for 2 days as she saw her carrying a small bag and ran off at such an early wee hours. She called her \"come back, come back, where are u going?\" She turned and waved at her and tearing \"Pray for me, I'm running to the embassy\". My maid is good as she knows and saw really incident of the maid complaining to her she has not enough food, wanted to transfer but the employer wanted to send her off, employer does not talk to her, working till late hours 1am, etc... Sign, there are always good and bad employer and maid.
Thanks much for advice. Appreciate!lovekidsverymuch:

Thank God that everything went well when I sent my helper home this morning. She actually apologised and asked for forgiveness and that was a pleasant surprise. It helped that I got an agent to break the news to her.I am sending my helper back today after she had completed 2 years of contract

I also learnt that I should keep a lookout for this clause in the employment contract regarding the days of notice needed to serve to the maid upon cessation of employment. Try to keep it at 7 days max. We could pay in lieu if we are afraid that they may do negative things within the 7 days. Esp with those maids who are emotional and mentally unstable. -

Good for ur Si Si, btw can we pay in lieu? :?
I just did. My lawyer friend also told me so long I pay in lieu like any other employment contract. But to be fair to her, I paid her much more though that's why I suppose she was quite ok.
Also, exactly one wk ago, I already told her that I do not want to renew her contract and asked if she would like to look for a new employer? She asked me for another chance but I just told her I needed to think about it. So in that sense, I have indirectly hinted to her my possible intention and she will not be too surprised and go hysterical.
