Wesim:
Huh ?
During the PTM, her form teacher did not mention about streaming, even though I asked. She said there will be two best classes - one for language and the other for Math and Science . :
P2, where got Science subject ?
did you ask your Teacher : If no Science at P2, then why she say out of the 2 best classes, one class is for Maths & Science ? -
Erh…I didn’t ask becos I just want my dd do well for her SA2 only. Didn’t really care which class she goes lah.

phtthp:
any good English Comprehension book, on inference, based on new psle format ?
Try The Ultimate Guide to Mastering Comprehension Primary 3 by Shaheed Salim. The standard in this book caters to high-ability students of Primary 2 standard. -
When the child is in the top class, grades between every student are very close. They would be scoring high As and most need tuition (sometimes 2 tutors for one subject) to stay in present position. Friend’s son attended group tuition after school at enrichment centre and private tuition at home.

for P3 to P6 -
so far, which centre teach both Chinese (Comprehension & Composition) lessons combined together in one lesson, not separated, every week ?
ie. combined 理 解 问 答 和 作 文 together, in one same lesson, every week ?
Not Alternate week Compo, then next week Compreh, that kind -
Time is tight. Get private tutor to prepare your P2 child for SA2 exam is a better solution. Besides sending the child to Chinese tuition centre such as Berries or Tien Hsia, the child also needs to have intensive private Chinese tuition if Chinese is the weakest subject. But don’t get ripped off by the exorbitant tuition fee, set a rate that you are comfortable to pay the tutor. Don’t get fooled by tuition agents too. Be smart and set your criteria to tuition agency. Some are bogus!! How can they claim to have 1000 tutors. Big joke.

Thanks very much, to both sembgal and Champion, for that Salim Compreh book.
Yes, time is very tight now : so many component to prepare.
Next big thing is the Year end paper.
There was a jump from P1 to P2, if compare same time last year with now, ESP from Semester 2 onwards.
By now, P2 exam timetable should be out, in most schools.
Tomorrow is start of October (exam month)
Some schools emphasize a lot on last Term 4 (60%), while (Term 1 to Term 3 together combined) constitute 40%, while other schools the other way round.
Different schools : different weightage, on last Term 4. -
Yes, phtthp, you are right. Competition is stiff to get into top P3 class. After getting in the top class, it is stress every examination period for parents, pupils and teachers of top class students. All pupils will fight for survival to maintain marks in top class, usually High Band 1. It is a loss of face to get transferred out in top class if pupils cannot maintain their standard (stellar performance). This results in parents sending their children to even more tuition classes in order to keep up. Teachers are stressed and have to scold pupils if their grades drop beyond a certain standard. To be a top class teacher, it takes courage to take up this challenging task.
If you were to say tuition is not necessary, then why some school teachers are sending their own children for other tuition classes?
On the other hand, the pupils in top class can be very self-motivated and willing to show more commitment to their studies. More experienced teachers with good KPIs tend to be in charge of such elite classes. Isn’t it a good deal? You can go top class and get top teachers to teach you?
If the child goes to a lower-ability based class, the dynamics of the class could influence how the teacher conducts his lesson. It is common to hear that teachers spend the first part of lesson lecturing pupils for incomplete homework, inattentive, and do you think real teaching goes on in this type of class setting? Reflect upon yourselves teachers! If you were trained in NIE, how did you ever pass your Practicum to teach in school?
I pray hard that my child will not get this type of incompetent teachers.
