any good English Comprehension book, on inference, based on new psle format ?
Try The Ultimate Guide to Mastering Comprehension Primary 3 by Shaheed Salim. The standard in this book caters to high-ability students of Primary 2 standard. -
during the hols, I will get my daughter to attempt a unit in that ‘Ultimate Guide to Mastering Comprehension’…helps in inference skills.

for P3 to P6 -
so far, which centre teach both Chinese (Comprehension & Composition) lessons combined together in one lesson, not separated, every week ?
ie. combined 理 解 问 答 和 作 文 together, in one same lesson, every week ?
Not Alternate week Compo, then next week Compreh, that kind -
Time is tight. Get private tutor to prepare your P2 child for SA2 exam is a better solution. Besides sending the child to Chinese tuition centre such as Berries or Tien Hsia, the child also needs to have intensive private Chinese tuition if Chinese is the weakest subject. But don’t get ripped off by the exorbitant tuition fee, set a rate that you are comfortable to pay the tutor. Don’t get fooled by tuition agents too. Be smart and set your criteria to tuition agency. Some are bogus!! How can they claim to have 1000 tutors. Big joke.

Thanks very much, to both sembgal and Champion, for that Salim Compreh book.
Yes, time is very tight now : so many component to prepare.
Next big thing is the Year end paper.
There was a jump from P1 to P2, if compare same time last year with now, ESP from Semester 2 onwards.
By now, P2 exam timetable should be out, in most schools.
Tomorrow is start of October (exam month)
Some schools emphasize a lot on last Term 4 (60%), while (Term 1 to Term 3 together combined) constitute 40%, while other schools the other way round.
Different schools : different weightage, on last Term 4. -
Yes, phtthp, you are right. Competition is stiff to get into top P3 class. After getting in the top class, it is stress every examination period for parents, pupils and teachers of top class students. All pupils will fight for survival to maintain marks in top class, usually High Band 1. It is a loss of face to get transferred out in top class if pupils cannot maintain their standard (stellar performance). This results in parents sending their children to even more tuition classes in order to keep up. Teachers are stressed and have to scold pupils if their grades drop beyond a certain standard. To be a top class teacher, it takes courage to take up this challenging task.
If you were to say tuition is not necessary, then why some school teachers are sending their own children for other tuition classes?
On the other hand, the pupils in top class can be very self-motivated and willing to show more commitment to their studies. More experienced teachers with good KPIs tend to be in charge of such elite classes. Isn’t it a good deal? You can go top class and get top teachers to teach you?
If the child goes to a lower-ability based class, the dynamics of the class could influence how the teacher conducts his lesson. It is common to hear that teachers spend the first part of lesson lecturing pupils for incomplete homework, inattentive, and do you think real teaching goes on in this type of class setting? Reflect upon yourselves teachers! If you were trained in NIE, how did you ever pass your Practicum to teach in school?
I pray hard that my child will not get this type of incompetent teachers. -
Next year, Moe may announce which batch is going to be the pioneering, first batch of guinea pig, to try out the new Psle \"No more T-score\" system

Thank you for the update.
How will this change affect the Primary 6 pupils, assuming a child scores A1 for all 5 subjects- Eng, Math, Chinese, Science and Higher Chinese with another child who scores A1 for only taking 4 subjects (without Higher Chinese) ?
Assuming the first child who takes 5 subjects score 5 A1s, that will be 5 points, am I right? What about another child who takes only 4 subjects (without Higher Chinese) and scores4 A1s, that will be 4 points?
How is taking an additional Higher Mother Tongue subject going to affect these batches of students under the revamped PSLE grading system?
I understand that currently if the child takes Higher Mother Tongue and scores Distinction, it will be +3 points, Merit will be +2points and Pass will be +1 point.
MOE is going to revamp PSLE grading system. The first batch of pupils affected could be the current Pri 3 pupils born in 2006 or current Pri 2 pupils born in 2007. Changes need time to work. Remember the PSLE change in English Syllabus? It was announced to public 3 years ago before it was introduced to our current batch of Pri 6 pupils this year who are the first batch to try out the New PSLE English syllabus.

just hope that our batch of 2007 born kids, can escape the new Psle system !
uncertainty lie ahead of us ... :slapshead:
what can be worse in life, than to be a guinea pig, used for testing, trial run purposes ? :stupid:
regarding those 5 subjects u mention above (including HMT) :
academic wise, this new Banding system may set a maximum weightage on academic, plus add in something else new onto the weighing scale, to band the Psle system. But what these something else new going to be, we (parents) do not know, yet. Not sure whether we parents will ever get to know the full detail disclosed, or certain parts remain forever as a mystery to us (parents), ie. remain as black box
Implication ?
As pointed out by a friend of mine :
through Banding, there is no longer any obvious distinction between \"my 4A1s Total raw score and your 4A1s Total raw score\", unless there is still an overall score that only schools or MOE can see internally, which they can use to compare internally, without letting parents know.
That means parents will never get to know, what is their child's actual Total raw score, for the 4 or 5 subjects' (if include HMT) Total.
Consequences ?
This will also mean much, more Tougher competition now, for Top Secondary schools, since there is no obvious distinction now amongst students' score. -
Under this new Banding system, not sure -
How Is it going to handle current, existing DSA application ?
How GEP students, may be impacted ?
How affliated primary school students, going to be impacted ?
There are 101 qn.
Every score fall under a band.
When your child fall under this band range : then can enter this set of Secondary schools, u can choose from.
If fall under another band range : then enter another set of Secondary schools
Everything is a black box mystery, for now.
Let the experts answer the detailed queries, in due time
