Oops! Made a mistake. Mine is 3.50pm.

I wonder can the Form, who is only the Math teacher, know the boys well. DS says it seems he doesn't even know all their names since he only comes in a few times a wk, given that many subjects.
Hmm...you got a point there. One thing I know though, the form/Math teacher dont have very good handwriting. I have to decipher some of his words. Can qualify to be a dr based on handwriting.

Sidetrack a little, I saw Singtel's ad today. Free Macbook when you sign up for broadband. Today last day. ARRGGHH!!!

Did anybody check on the HMT during the PTM? I spoke to my boy form teacher this afternoon and he said that it is not easy to take up HMT. The boys must not only have excellent results in Chinese but also all the other subjects. I wanted to check with the Chinese teacher but he was not in school today. I don’t understand why students in other Sec sch such as VS can try for 1 year on HMT but not MSHS. My cousin’s boy is in VS and he is allowed to try 1 year on HMT even though he did not study HMT in his primary school!

My DS is in Sec 1.

I had a shock when I saw the results of his Art. He had a F9.
At the parent-teacher mtg, the teacher said he did not hand up his work. Then I said, why wasn’t this alerted to the parent the entire term?? You mean wait for the student to fail and see his results then let us know? Her reply was that she was too busy, and she showed me that on her record book alot of students also had this problem. I was not surprised. After all, art is not part of the common test, and students were not told explicitly that their art exercises were included as part of the CA grades.

After that, I went to check on my DS art holiday homework. To my horror, he had 3 assignments! And they were not easy. Not only must show end product, must also produce development pieces, etc… I think it is asking too much from the students. Frankly, I have no idea why the expectations for this subject is so high … the type of assignments given are almost like those from NAFA or SOTA projects. Not much of a school holiday, considering that practically every subject has holiday homework (but 3 assignments for Art is just plain ridiculous)

Would like to hear from other parents out there on this …

This is SO STUPID!!! THis is in Admin Breeze which we are to print and sign.

            FUTURE MARIS STELLA@SINGAPORE
            User Policy Undertaking

Your son/ward will be issued a Macbook on a daily basis for him to participate in the lesson activities developed for the 1-to-1 learning environment. With the Macbook and the new wireless Internet infrastructure, he will have full access to the 10Mb broadband bandwidth
            throughout the school day.

            -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
We BOUGHT the Macbook, the boys are not ISSUED. Issued means the school provides, and end of the day, the boys have to return.

Good grief, simple English and MSHS principal can get it wrong!!

              Hi Parents of 1C.

Did anyone look at the student’s result in the admin breeze? I was shocked to see my DS result for the Maths chapter 1-4 practice paper. He told me that the paper is still in his bag bcos the Maths teacher never ask them to hand in! When he wanted to hand in, the Maths teacher did not want to accept anymore! I just wonder whether my DS did not concentrate what the teacher say in class or did the Math teacher never mention when to hand in the paper??

My DS did the work on the worksheet itself and handed it in, but it was returned with a 0 and a note to do it on foolscap! But the 0 mark had been given! I wonder is this part of the SA weightage? Seems really unfair. DS also said he didn't hear need do it on foolscap.

That's true, it's really unfair, my DS also said he didn't hear need to do it on foolscap and i think this is part of the SA, otherwise why is the result stated in the student's result.

Ds said his teacher told him the class have to pay for a pair of Converse canvas shoes for art exam. The school tied up with Converse and got a deal at $20 a pair. The usual price is $55.

I haven’t got the black and white yet. But I don’t see why must the kids buy a $20 pair of canvas shoes to paint on for art exam when a normal less than $10 pair will do.

Maybe the purpose is to put in effort in painting sth looking good that the student will want to wear to show off his/her artistic work?

I love those hand painted canvas shoes. But now too old to wear.

If a child is keen in art, given any white canvas shoe, will attempt to do a good job. Doesn’t mean $20 shoes they draw better, and $5 shoes they don’t. I dont’ think its a value I want to instil in my son - that you should treasure only branded and expensive things. Seems like the school is very brand-concious.

What sort of values is the school imparting to our boys?!
