-Decision-making. Leave that decision-making to your child. Why do I say that? Remember my dd has P3 friends? They revealed to me that their parents were the one to decide which centres they go to and they have no say. I feel that it is very important to provide a choice for the children to choose from your list of shortlisted enrichment centres. Firstly, your child gains an opportunity to practise for Stimulus-based Conversation on which centre she likes to go to and why? Secondly, your child is the one that is learning at that centre, not the parents. That's why I stressed that the budget is a very important factor. Let the child have a choice where she would like to go for Science enrichment. If it is possible, get the child to talk to the potential teacher that will be teaching your child. If the teacher is proactive, she will be the one to request to speak to your child to find out more about your child and see if this partnership of teaching and learning will work out or not?
My DS is asking to go without SC enrichment class and wants me to trust him that he will meet my 'expectation'. So, tentatively not signing up any for him. Let him take charge. :nailbite:

First batch may be those born in 2005 taking new PSLE Science syllabus being affected. They could be the guinea pigs.

Those born in 2006 are the first batch to take the new PSLE Math syllabus.
what kind of PSLE Maths syllabus changes, are involved ?
(since our 2007 batch, also impacted)

the first batch of guinea pigs to try out this \"Banding of PSLE\" experiment :
should be after PSLE 2017 (won't be 2005 born), because this statement below claim :-

\"For instance, each secondary school has to develop two distinctive programmes by 2017 , to cater to students' interests.\"

            http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/syllabu ... y-2013.pdf

(This is implemented level by level starting from primary one in 2013)(Those children born in 2006 and after 2006 are affected by this change.)

            http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/syllabu ... y-2007.pdf
(This is for children born before 2006. And for children born in or before 2005 (P5 in 2016), (P6 in 2017) will not be affected by the change in syllabus.

If you take a look at the PSLE question for this year 2015, the famous MCQ question about the mass of the coins. That kind of estimation question can be found in my Primary 2 daughter's Math assessment books as well as the new Math textbook and workbook about Mass and estimation.

              Hi

May I know which science enrichment course include doing science experiment?
I have yet to come across a science enrichment centre that comes with a science lab? Thanks.

You can try Just Education. They have experiments occasionally. But when you ask them who are their teachers for next year, they can't tell you.

Usually I go for those centres that I know who will be the teachers teaching.

              Hi!

My gal is also a 2007 and now quite gancheong about her science. Thanks sembgal for the thoroughness in science suggestions. πŸ˜„

I'm thinking of getting her subscriptions to science magazines like Young Scientists etc. What does everyone think of that? Is is a necessity? Would tuition centres have such materials for the children to browse, borrow etc?

              Thank you! πŸ˜„

Marshall Cavendish science guide. Not sure if the psle version is out as there has been a slight change in Moe syllables. Though I have a psle version from my 2014 psle boy which I bought when he just started p3, I noticed there were some change to contents. Some stuff taken out and some eg updated. So best to get latest version than 2nd hand.

Eph ultimate science guide will be useful. I didn't get new version. This is for leisure read. The one above more for exam rev read.

Get nail those mcq. Entry based questions. When selecting mcq assessment books, go for those with explanation on choices, read a few to make sure you feel the explanation is good.

For sect b, I find that it is useful to only go through after teachers in school has taught the answering methods. For p2, focus on reading up and understanding concepts.

Thanks Jedamum, which mcq assessment book is recommended?
I have the PSLE guide book for my DD to guide her PSLE next year but I think this book may be too indepth for a P3 student so will look for Marshall Cavendish science guide for my DS self study during the year end holidays, hope he will grow to have interest in this subject.

We personally like Nail those mcq. The questions not very high order thinking. We use it to reinforce concepts, not for stretching of thinking. The latter, we use exam papers.

There is another mcq one, but personally I don’t quite like it but can’t remember the reasons. I put it aside after son had done a few.

Thank you. I will get the Nail those Mcq. Pretty happy that it is requested by DS so I see this as \"self motivated\" which is easier than \"parents movitated'..Hope DS \"interest\" will not fade away fast. πŸ˜„
