I would follow the school's recommendation. They are educators for so many years and they know best what are the possible results a student might get with the subjects' combination. All the best to your decision.the 'explain your answer' in the OE section is 20 marks...applicable for standard and foundation. Now that she is exempted from MT, our focus is on 3 subjects. For science, it's one day of lower block and another day of upper block. Science upper block still has 2 topics...forces and energy.
Although her school offers foundation science, her teacher doesn't want her to take it.
I have a PTM...will speak to her teacher regarding this. Thanks. -

Hope you are able to derive a wise and calm decision for your DS. All the best. -

daughter has extra time for all her papers...otherwise she would not have been able to finish her exam...recently, the psychologist added 'prompter' in case she day dreams...the invigilator would gently remind her to focus. mine here is a dreamer too.
Yes, she is exempted from MT. She is actually one year older than our DD. Due to some valid reason, she missed school for 1.1/2 years so when she returned to school, the principal had her join one level lower than what she should have been. She was already weak academically and missing the 1.1/2years of school, she had problem catching up with the syllabus. Furthermore, she is a dreamer and slow in writing. She gets an extra 15 mins during tests/examinations but still it is insufficient... Most of the time, She is unable to complete her papers, especially math. -
hi eatnonstop/lynntan,
since her teacher feels that she can cope with standard, we would have to brace ourselves for the tough(er) road ahead. I spoke to her yesterday about standard science…hopefully she will mature and be less forgetful…most importantly, her promise to work harder since she herself wants to take this route. -
hi Janet,
glad that your daughter’s school encourage her to take Standard Science.
Standard Science open up more opportunities in Secondary school next time for your girl, to do pure Physics, Chemistry, Bio later on at O level.
School recommendation from Tr, is correct. I believe your daughter will put in her best effort, have faith in her. All the very best to her

thanks for having faith in my daughter. I dare not think so far ahead about physics, chem and bio. it's definitely one little step at a time for her.
over the weekend, I was worried sick about the subject combination...then on sunday after her tuition, her tutor asked me to consider foundation science, which I thought was a good idea since it is less demanding. come Monday, this girl called saying she was asked to do 3 standard...i'm really in a dilemma, not knowing which direction to go. -
Is below 30 marks a standard to go for foundation subject? or depend on individual school?

at the p5 talk beginning of the year, the principal said that grades above 30 would qualify for standard...but in my opinion, 30 is actually low. -
I met the teacher after SA1 exam and was told above 40 marks only can consider taking standard subject.

40 and above would be more appropriate. anyway, this holiday will not be fun-filled, for sure.
