jovially:
Is below 30 marks a standard to go for foundation subject? or depend on individual school?
at the p5 talk beginning of the year, the principal said that grades above 30 would qualify for standard...but in my opinion, 30 is actually low. -
I met the teacher after SA1 exam and was told above 40 marks only can consider taking standard subject.

40 and above would be more appropriate. anyway, this holiday will not be fun-filled, for sure. -

If your daughter is in a 'branded' or 'popular' neighbourhood school, the marks may not be a true reflection of her ability. I think going with the school's recommendation is good. They would have a bigger picture of national standards. At the same time, doing standard papers may not 'close' doors prematurely. Secondary schools do at times take note at subject grade, paper level other than T-scores for different purposes like subject banding, lateral transfers, etc.jovially:

Just to share, there are movements in sec schools, where students move from one stream to another. I have encountered kids who moved from NT to NA to Exp, and likewise from Exp to NA to NT due to many reasons, some cognitive, some social-emotional.
One observation is that those who move from NT to NA, or NA to Exp, have 'awaken' cognitively. Kids 'change' after hitting puberty.
Just food for thought. -
hi happy mum,
agree.
there are lots of ‘movements’ in the secondary school.
son told me his classmates either move to NA (from express) or ‘promote’ to express. -
looking for tuition teacher or centre for both Math and Science.
Any recommendation?
Came across SuperStarTeacher, not sure how good or effective they are. -
I’ve emailed daughter’s child psychologist. a grade 30 is actually low to qualify for Standard Science…forwarded psychologist’s reply to hubby. he will speak to the teacher about the school’s insistence about taking Standard next year. Funz’s post gave me some pointers…if I’ve been struggling with the weekly revision and her brain is like a sieve, it may be advisable to do Foundation. better than ruining our relationship during a crucial year.

How do you find her SA2 paper this time round? Are they challenging? If her school papers are pitched at a standard higher than the average schools, then maybe the school feels that with scores above 30, she should be able to manage Standard subjects next year... I am just guessing.
Janet88, I know this is really a tough decision to make... Dilemma, dilemma, dilemma. It is at time like this, I hope someone can make the decision for me instead. -
nicnac,
I’ve been in a dilemma since yesterday. before the psychologist replied me, hubby was still in favour of Standard…we had some unhappiness over it. after reading the reply and the pamphlet attached to the email, he is more willing to discuss the idea of foundation. honestly, he should know better what situation his daughter is facing. if it has to be an easier path because of her condition and for the sake of sanity next year, what’s wrong with foundation? besides, there is nothing wrong taking a longer path. -

Once having examined all aspects and knowing what's ahead, then I would say you have made a wise decision based on your life priorities. Though I don't know you, I fully support your decision to journey with your daughter in her journey...it maybe longer, but it certainly does sound full of hope, love and 'excitement' as well. There would be wonderful things ahead as you move on with openness and a sense of wonderment. :rahrah:nicnac,
