      Centuria:
      hi everyone,

i am dilemma between Temasek Primary school vs Poh Chin Primary. Both schools confirm i can get a place for my daughter entering P1 in 2018. I am staying in tampines.

Any insights which is a better one?

      Temasek Pri ( Hubby's sch)
      At Bedok

      Poh Chin (SAP sch)
      at Tampines
Guarantee a seat if complete PV.

      Thanks for advice.
I will choose Poi Ching, because Poi Ching has a good Chinese programme and it is a more academically-inclined school, provided that your child is able to cope with the academic load.

Anyone who has forgone choice of school via phase 2A route and enrol in another school via phase 2C due to distance but got to ballot due to its growing popularity within the neighbourhood and got balloted out in the end ? 😓

How was your experience ? Any regrets?
My friend's experience for this year P1 registration. Was told my friend could register the child in Rosyth in Phase 2A but did not as stay too far away. In the end, choose a very simple and normal neighbourhood school. Reason: the child is not that academically inclined and does not want to stress out the child so young. Their family has educators who also agree that neighborhood schools are equally good and the nearer the school to the house, the better it is.

The textbook is already there for the kids to go through on their own, there is no need for the teacher to go through everything in the text. I would prefer my kids' teachers to go through with them stuff not found in the textbook.

if reliance on tuition is to be reduced, then teachers have to teach the students concepts to handle those challenging word problems. my girl can handle section A & B...but the killer ones in section C are the big ticket questions...daughter has tuition to learn concepts in order to handle the challenging questions in school exams.

You mean from P1 till now your girl in P5, all her teachers have not been teaching problem sums or been exposing the students to problem sums?

Problems sums is applying concepts learned. It is not a whole new concept altogether. Tactics to handle problem sums yes, eg, highlight key words, take note of how many parts there are to the sum, beware of words like between, among, before, after, etc. but what concepts are you talking about in problem sums?[/quote]There is this http://www.learnlogy.com that some primary schools subscribe for the students. The questions are excellent for problem sum practice.

hi any parent (or you know of cases) who could have enrolled the child in a popular school but have decided otherwise and went to a neighbourhood school and still manage to do well (COP > 250)?

            Could you share your experience?
Do PM me if you are uncomfortable in sharing here. Thanks !

I don't know of any personal cases but I remember clearly - one of the past top Singapore PSLE scorers came from Hougang Primary. He was good enuf to go to GEP but he chose to stay put in his school.

I believe that a premium seed (high ability n hardworking) will always grow well in any kind of soil (neighbourhood or branded school).

            Yes! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kEdq2KkQAg&sns=em

Watch this video, the boy scored 259

              Hi everyone,

Given a choice, would you choose Raffles Girls Primary (with no affiliated sec school) or St. Margaret Primary (affiliated to St Margaret Sec) and why?

Appreciate if you could share your view as i am in a dilemma which one to choose.

              1. Which phase are you in?
              2. Where do you stay i.e. Distance to school?
              3. What are you means of going to / fro school?

2B for St mar and 2C for RGPS. Currently staying outside 2km for both schools. But i have just met the MOP so im considering whether to sell my plc and move nearer to RGPS to have a go at 2C or stay put at my current plc and settle for st mar since no balloting required at 2B historically.

One is confirmed while one is not (and moving closer doesn't guaranteed that you will be safe from ballot).

Hi, love to hear from anyone of you!

I am in the east, registering for my boy’s primary school next year’s june.
I hope to hear any views/opinions/comments from anyone of your experience with the following schools!

                  -Meridian Primary School
                  -Kong Hwa Primary School
                  -Saint Hilda’s Primary School
                  -Cedar Primary School

Anyone of you have good experience on thoughtful and caring teachers/educators that your current child/children are in right now, which you can share about? Which school is it?

& some schools like cedar are quite well-known in their robotic cca, what other schools do anyone of u recommend as well?

It depends largely on where you are currently residing. Meaning whether the school that you listed is within 1km of your residence. My Dd is going to one of the schools that you listed above and to do that I shifted house so that I am within 1km and that only allows me a chance for ballot and not a sure win entry to the school. Good luck!

                      to goto RGPS -
your daughter must be academically inclined, because there are many, many girls there, super bright.

                      sharing ...
this year, my friend (in the education field) have the chance, to register her K2 daughter under Phase 2A into Rgps, since she is an old girl.
However, as her daughter is not academically inclined, in the end she chose to register her daughter instead into another primary school, that is affliated to GCE \"O\" level Secondary.
(she gave up Rgps, under Phase 2A2)

since you can register your girl into St Margaret primary under Phase 2B without issue, proceed.
If your girl do well at PSLE, she can always goto RGS Secondary, later on.
no need to be burdened (headache), like shift house less than 1 km to ballot under Phase 2C

if your daughter do well in (P1 / P2) at St Margaret primary, she can seek Transfer into Rgps at end of P2, if suppose after trying out 2 years in St Margaret, she really want to go Rgps afterall.
However, as Rgps start Higher Chinese from P1, while St Margaret doesn't, make sure that your daughter's Chinese is strong, if intend to seek Transfer.

it is wiser to seek Transfer at end of P2, instead of Transfer at end of P3 : because once P3 Gep screening results are out in Term 4 November time frame, Rgps will pick only the best, to enter
There is much stiffer competition, to transfer at end of P3, compared to end of P2

may read more about Rgps, here
