Ah…interesting conversation on tuition. Agree that tuition does not guarantee success and moreover takes away precious self-study time as well as recreational time to rest and recharge.

Tuition does have it’s place in the Singapore system, as it stands now, but not all children require or will benefit from it

When my DCs were much younger, I actually thought we could get by with no tuition at all …like I did. But clearly it was not meant to be. DS1 struggled in 2 subjects in P4 and so I had to cave in and organise tuition for those 2 subjects.
But it took us a while before we got the right tutors for him. With the first tutors he was not benefiting much and most important of all, he was not really happy. It was only in P6 that we finally found the best fit for him.

Over tuitioning (if there is such a term) can surely be draining and ultimately detrimental to the child. As parents if we spend enough time with our children, we will know how much tuition, if any, they need. Sometimes less is more. The right tutor is also important and it is worthwhile taking the time and effort to look for the best fit.

My DS2 who is taking PSLE next year is not doing much these hols (unlike his elder bro , my DS1 during his pre-PSLE year). I know for DS2 this is probably the right strategy because he will definitely get bored and irritated by the time PSLE comes if I make him slog now.

Bottom line - every child is different. Tailor the strategy according to your child’s needs. And please do allow them to rest adequately. Happy hols!

the right tutor for the child is very important. he/she must be encouraging especially if the child is a little slow.

Holidays ending and we haven't done any work :scared:
Can't seem to get our engines started.

We didn’t even go overseas this school holiday but don’t know why time still passes so quickly. Bowling today. Have activities line up the next few days too. Not much time to study whole day before school open.

time always passes quickly during the holidays, whether public or school holidays :gloomy: during the school term, the week is so hard to pass.

Their last day of school was not long ago on 18 Nov . So I will let them enjoy their last precious week of play.

this year's holiday seem to start late. fortunately school reopens on 4 jan.
i feel so gloomy every year because after jan 1, it's back to school the next day. next week, must let them enjoy themselves...but also start adjusting waking up early too.

Oh dear parents don't be upset.

Just think, this time next year we will be all excited about secondary schools.

The coming year is an opportunity for us to get closer to our P6 DCs and work with them. It's going to be great. And guess what, next year will also be the year that their PSLE will be OVER....yes!!!

                        Can't wait for 2016!

                        :hi5:
