phtthp:

under the new Psle banding system, they will introduce concept of cluster of secondary schools

example

Psle score, from 230 to 240 : allocated to Cluster X Secondary schools

240 to 250 : allocated Cluster Y

250 to 260 : allocated Cluster Z

above 260 : allocated Top tier Secondary schools
Just curious... has this been announced officially? Mind sharing the link to the news? :thankyou:

Won't such a system worsen the problem of elitism in Singapore?
Hi

May I know which science enrichment course include doing science experiment?
I have yet to come across a science enrichment centre that comes with a science lab? Thanks.

You can try Just Education. They have experiments occasionally. But when you ask them who are their teachers for next year, they can't tell you.

Usually I go for those centres that I know who will be the teachers teaching.

Hi!

My gal is also a 2007 and now quite gancheong about her science. Thanks sembgal for the thoroughness in science suggestions. πŸ˜„

I'm thinking of getting her subscriptions to science magazines like Young Scientists etc. What does everyone think of that? Is is a necessity? Would tuition centres have such materials for the children to browse, borrow etc?

Thank you! πŸ˜„
Hi, for young scientist magazines, you do not need to buy. You can go to public libraries to borrow young scientist magazines. If you are CDAC member, you can borrow the young scientist magazines too.

You can subscribe to National Geographic Channel - The one related to Science one. Sorry, I hardly watch tv but I have seen my kid watching it when her dad watches that National Geographic Channel. She learns fact about crocodiles, sharks, etc. Quite interesting.

Is this old news or new news about withholding names of PSLE top scorer.

How's school for all the P3s this week so far? My dd has been having daily homework since first day of school and at this pace that it goes, I can foresee that I am going to suspend all weekday enrichment activities and be very selective about how she is going to manage her time. Her priority is to manage school work and homework load. I try not to laden her with extra work as she has to sacrifice sleep to complete her homework due to after school weekday activities. I guess both of us are stuck in low gear for the first week of school.

Hi sembgal,

CAn give an estimate of how much homework is given each day? As in how many pages or take how Long to finish? My P3 does not have much homework so far, not unlike their P1-P2. At most 2-3 pages which can be completed in less than 10-20mins. Some homework already completed in school, so really not much school work to be done at home. I actually hope there can be more homework so that I don’t have to assign work to occupy the afternoon time.

These were the HW that my DS did for the past week.

To write 3x EL journal. Min. 2 pages long.
To complete HCL activity book 1st chapter
To decorate their SC journal book (draw and colour)
To decorate their Art journal (draw & colour)
2 pages of Stellar Handwriting (cursive)
For Maths, my DS was able to complete all in school/day care, thus nothing dabao home.
πŸ˜“
