All About Polytechnics

Allow me to share what I have heard from others regarding the Poly course (before i continue, please be assure that I am speaking from a neutral viewpoint).


Poly is a good place for kids to grow up learning how to manage their time and strengthening their EQs through relationship management (due to projects after projects). However, if the student does not have a strong convictions of why he/she chooses a poly course, he/she might face difficulties in handling the course, which might lead to failing or feeling upset with their own results. This can lead to motivation issues.

Hence, the students would need to understand why they chose the course (i.e.: don't use poly as an excuse to escape from JC or other options).

The O level results is on a release next week, I wish all success and flying color results

CCA in polytechnics are probably as varied, if not more, as JC offering. They are after all administered as tertiary institutions (similar to the universities) with a lot more autonomy and \"power\" vested in the students.

Not compulsory to join a CCA in polys. It's still the GPAs (or grade point average) that's more important for uni admissions. But joining a CCA does give a more balanced and holistic edu life. For some students, it gives them a sense of belonging doing something they enjoy with like-minded friends.

Took up 7$ hr cafe job and seems like no plan to do any proper degree even if A level result good...Sigh..

We hv a girl in church who got into NUS Med. She has a diploma in nutrition. She initiated a very good project on her own.

I find republic poly students really hip and happening. Was there a few times. And I noticed they are cool dressers. Their canteen is a really nice environment for the young to socialise and network.
