To Rea: Thanks. It seems that there were more vacancies in Phase 2C than usual last year, possibly because of moving to the holding school. That will presumably change once they move back to the school at the end of 2017.

          There's no affiliated secondary

There is no affiliated secondary school and it resulted in some parents transferring their daughters out to other schools with affiliation as they wanted to feel secure of having a safety net to fall on in the event if the child does not do well in PSLE. It takes two hands to clap and parents have to provide home support if needed if the child requires and not depend solely on teachers to teach everything. We have to inculcate in our children with self-motivated mindset and self-responsibility for independent learning and revision after school hours. Throughout these years, the teachers that have taught or currently teaching my child have met my expectations and not forgetting that as parents, we have to be responsible for our child's behaviour. Children are just like seeds, that need tender love and whatever necessary ingredients needed to cultivate and allow them to blossom at their own pace and develop naturally. It is extremely easy to seek a school transfer for a child with decent results but we must bear in mind the emotional needs of the child for parents who intend to transfer their children out to other schools with affiliation to secondary schools. Will your child be happier?

Nothing is perfect and no one is perfect. This school will not be perfect for parents who compare their child's school to other children's schools in terms of teaching staff, school teaching materials, etc or for parents who like to complain about nitty gritty issues. This is a good girls' school but the downside is there is no secondary affiliation. Decide carefully and do not regret your decision down the road to enrol your daughters in this school. Time will tell you how much your daughters have learnt in school. Follow your heart and decide what is best for your child.

            Rea:
My girl just started with MCS. She just received the form to choose CCA.

Anyone here with their girl in Rhythmic Gymnastics(RG), esp in the school team? My daughter is keen and has been attending RG outside for about a year already. However, she wasn't picked by the school coach. I don't know if i should still let her try it as recreational CCA or opt for others. Would appreciate any feedback and advice.
Hi, Rea, my P2 girl is in the school team for RG. Their team was officially formed at the second week of this new school year, and they would be trained intensively to get ready for national competition in April this year. Some of her team mates are selected from recreational RG which they attended during P1, and some of the girls that trained along with her in P1 special CCA (they don't send P1 team for competition, so it is not a official school team yet, the coach just grill them for selection in the following year) did not get into the official school team this year.

So yes, I would encourage your girl to take up RG as the recreational batch, which will be trained once a week. If the coach see her improvement, she will be invited to join the special CCA team, which will be trained twice per week. RG is a sport that need long hour of training (in fact all CCA that represent school does), it will put the girls through tests on their commitment, perseverance, diligence and determination. Some girls would give up along the way as the training is quite tough, and some shown much improvement with the training. So don't give up at the starting point, her passion and hard work in RG will bring her to the best level she could achieve.

              hihi,

thank you for all mommies's concern on my DD's health, i think i don't need to visit her school today as she has become better, less coughing now. 😉

actually i did try many methods to cure her asthma or boost up her immune system and now making cordyceps soup for her, sigh..damn exp  and i've also gone for a talk about asthma that actually there is currently no cure for asthma, you may have less or no asthma attack when u grow older and this will depend on your health condition too, that means younger child and elderly will have more frequently attack in general. well, actually my DD's health is much better now, she used to be admitted twice at the age of 13 months and 3 yrs old, she was sick every alternative week in N1 that i couldn't stand it and completely dropped her out from school, sigh..those were the days...just hope that she will become better from time to time when she grows up.. 🙏

              Hi lvkt,

Great to hear that your DD has recovered from her cough. Must be a relief for you. Seems like her asthma was quite bad when she was young. Ya, I've heard other parents mention that some kids do 'recover' from asthma as they grow up. Let's hope your DD is one of them. 🙏

              Hi Ivkt
Monitoring your child's airway inflammation could prevent frequent attacks. Airway inflammation usually precedes asthma attack. Any asthma attacks is potentially fatal for the child if not discovered early and medication administered in time. Avoid these emergencies!

                  Term 1

English - girls are expected to be able to read sentences. They do stories - similar stuff as other Pri sch like Aitong
Math - only doing number bonds & bit of addition/subtraction within 10 or 20 (can’t remember) Plus ordinals
Chinese - simple stuff with basic hanyu pinyin

                      check first thing, first -
confirm whether any school bus fetch children from the east, to Marymount Convent primary.

if no school bus, to the east : how is your daughter going to school, daily ?

                      OR

if got school bus, and school bus fetch your daughter 5.30 am daily (Monday to Friday ) :
do you still want this school ?

can your daughter and you (parent) \"take it\" 365 days per year, waking up everyday 5 am early morning, for the next 6 years (P1 to P6), minus away the school holidays, in June / December, plus one week short break in March / September ?

anyway, here is Marymount school bus operator's telephone contact, for you to confirm :

Hi, jts I have a friend who lives in Sengkang and wants to consider Marymount Convent due to its reputable Rhythmic Gymnastics CCA as a first niche, followed by Aesthetics as 2nd niche.

The school attained the 2nd niche status in Aesthetics in 2013 with its distinctive Arts programme that permeates the whole school community. The girls in Marymount Convent School are given opportunities to develop and showcase their artistic talent in both the visual and performing arts, so that they would better appreciate the beauty around them, and learn how to express themselves and their emotions creatively through their chosen art forms. Pupils’ artistic skills are honed through their active participation in the various art forms. For visual arts, pupils are exposed to art forms ranging from western art, Chinese calligraphy, ceramics and print-mak-ing while the performing arts programme provides opportunities for pupils to explore dra-ma, music-making, choral singing and dance forms ranging from creative movement to fusion ethnic and contemporary dances.

My gf was asking me about MCS and I was sharing with her that next year the school will be operating at the permanent location, Marymount Rd, after the PERI upgrading and more facilities and more CCAs could be offered next year as current parents have to fill up a CCA survey form to select 3 CCAs for their children who had in mind what they want to join next year and to suggest 2 new CCAs for the school.

The school provides abundant opportunities for pupils to develop holistically in their academic and non-academic areas.

It is easier to get into this school through Phase 2C without balloting but will need to go through balloting in Phase 2Cs based on past years historical statistics that is found in this forum created by chief kiasu.
