      Oh My Gosh:

DD ballet teacher passed her the RAD Summer School application form, hence my asking here if it is a useful venue as it stretches over 5 days and each lesson is about 4 hours :yikes: My girl is doing the RAD exam syllabus so I am unlikely to sign her up for the CSTD Summer School.

I woke up at 5am to give her the paracetamol so when she woke up at 8am, she was well. Her exam ended at around 11am. The girls commented this is by far the best examiner, very friendly and makes them relax. The 4 of them came out from the studio beaming with delight. My girl is grade 2. She could not take G1 exam last year due to under age.

She is interested to enrol for the RAD Summer school. I forget to ask the teacher if she should sign up as grade 2 or grade 3. Later will call the school to enquire.

Happy for your DD. With a friendly examiner (and hopefully lenient as she knows your DD is sick), lucky stars are shining 🙂 My girl was previously in the same shoes as your DD, skipping Grade 1 as she is under aged.

Grades for RAD Summer School is for tied-grades, i.e. Grade 1&2, Grade 2&3, Grade 3&4, etc. Sign her up as Grade 2&3. It will be too difficult for her if you sign her up for Grade 3&4 and she will not enjoy the summer school.

That said, I am still dilemma if I should sign her up :?

Thanks Oh My Gosh. 🙂 I find this year theme very interesting..

In celebration of the Queen 90th Birthday, should be quite a grand performance.

Hi Oh My Gosh and all, this afternoon I called up one of the Dance schools to enquire about the RAD Summer School. For those of you who are interested, just take note there is no tied-grade this year. Your girl should enroll for the grade that she will be in as of Apr. The girls will be awarded Certificate of Participate for the programme. Performance will be held at Republic Polytechnic. For CSTD Summer School, the performance will be at SCGS. I was told the RAD one will be on a much bigger scale. I forgot to ask if the $350 includes the costumes or we need to buy separately? I think most likely costume is additional charge.

But if you look at the application form, it says Grade 1&2, Grade 2&3. So for a girl doing grade 2 exam this April for e.g., should she sign up for Grade 1&2 or Grade 2&3?

Any parents with experience sending the girls for the summer school.. do we need to pay extra for the costumes? Roughly how much is that?

My girl did that a few years back. Back then, for their item, they wore the summer school singlet (this singlet was issued to all participants for keepsake) over their leotard.. And they were asked to wear their leotard with any shorts and knee length socks with sneakers. They said they will try to make do with what we already have as much as possible. So we didn't have to buy anything.
Make up and hair were all done on our own.
I remember sending my girl there for rehearsal in the morning, then I had to pick her up after the rehearsal and then send her back there for the actual show.
I am not sure if it is still the same.. But for each level, the TOP girl will be given a 'scholarship' to do the summer school Programme in the following year. And they have a medal for the TOP, 2nd and 3rd prize for each level... Based on their performance during the 5-day Programme.

participated 2 years back for the RAD summer class. they only gave a summer class pink t-shirt which is way too small. no extra costume needed. they asked for the normal leotard of their grade and character skirt/shoes. which are thing they already have. the performance venue is the same. as parents, I don’t see anything so great about it. but to my child and her friends, they enjoyed it very much. the teaches are from UK, guess their coaching is different from their usual teacher and more fun. A good exposure I would say. Haven decided to join this year or not as the performance date clash with out travelling date. sob

So it is not worth paying more to buy the performance tickets?

Dvd will be available for purchase. They will be doing one item and then the finale.

are there any kids here whose RAD ballet exam is held in May, instead of clear by end by April 2016 ?

is there a last date (if any), to conduct RAD ballet exam ?
