Tragedy struck this morning, involving the deaths of two SMRT maintenance staff on the tracks near Pasir Ris MRT station.
SMRT first noted about an unclear incident that transpired on the East-West Line at 11.39am that resulted in the suspension of train services between Tanah Merah and Pasir Ris stations in both directions.

Due to an incident on the track at Pasir Ris, there are no train services between Tanah Merah and...Posted by SMRT on Monday, 21 March 2016 It was only later on that SMRT announced that the service disruption was due to an accident along the track at a servicing point near Pasir Ris station.
The incident — yet to be revealed in detail by the public transport operators — resulted in the deaths of two of their staff.
\"We convey our deepest condolences to their families and are providing support to them at this very difficult time,\" they stated. \"We are working with the Police to conduct a detailed investigation into this accident.\"

SINGAPORE — Rescuers have extricated the bodies of the two SMRT maintenance staff who were killed in a track accident near the Pasir Ris MRT station on Tuesday morning (March 22). The train that was involved in the accident was also seen slowing moving back into the station around 1.15pm.

Apparently both are Singaporeans aged 24 and 26, just joined in Jan, and were undergoing OJT when tragedy struck…

The ball is with the Minister of Transport now. Shouldn't be that hard for SMRT CEO to organise a press con to offer the standard drawer reply and ensure the public that the company is looking into it so that it won't happen again. Blah blah blah. -
