Any Updates As To When PSLE T-Scores Will Be Scrapped?

Agree, the new revamped PSLE grading system is going to cause more parents to engage tutors for their children born 2009 and after. Hmmm..... Now all kindergartens and childcare students better start tuition too because this system is making everything just more complicated.
Those operating tuition services or tuition agencies will be laughing all the way to the bank.
No, on the contrary, I think it's those non-academic centres like NAFA, sports schools, etc. that will thrive!!! :siam: -

sorry for spamming.. but no words can express my stress level and worries !
Why it sounds like it is going to be more stressful than the current psle system leh...I must be in the dark again :nailbite:
Producing kids with good results are tough ! Producing All Rounded kids with good results are even tougher !

The stress will come at the Sec 1 Posting application when parents have to decide the ORDER of their choices ........
This is back to the old days --- Some parents with \"higher expectation\" will get a shock when their kids get their bottom few choices instead of the first few choices -- simply because the grade banding does not accurately tell the parents/kids where they are in the cohort.
Example:
Boy A gets 3 A* and 1 A and actual T-score = 260
Boy B gets the same but actual T-score = 250
MOE will know the actual score and will place the kids according to the T-scores. But the parents would not know that and may foolishly waste their choices.
So in the end, EVERYONE will be back to the guessing game!

if the new Banding system follow O level score system, there wont be just single A, anymore.
need to fine tune your single \"A\" into either \"A1\", or \"A2\".
applying the wide Band range of O level score system :
A1, A2, B3, B4, C5, C6, D7, E8 ... F9 (fail)
roughly, how many A1/A2, must a P6 student achieve, in order to get back the equivalent of old T-score system of 240, 250 and 260 ?
(ie. try to map back the equivalent of old T-score system, vs into the new PSLE Banding range system)
b)
one begin to wonder :-
for students coming from affliated schools, believe that respective school board concerned, will discuss with MOE official in greater detail.
will they standardize minus 2 points across the board, for all affliated primary schools to Secondary, or some school board will fight their way very hard for their alumni members, ie. vary their own in-house affliation score point like, +2, +3, +4, up to +5, etc ?
Maybe no deduction for affiliates, who knows! Or maybe for School X, it'll be fixed at 10 points for non-affiliates, but needs 9 points for affiliates. Then, for lower-band School Y, it'll be fixed 20 points, but accept 18 points for affiliates? If everyone adopts a uniform/standardised 2-point deduction like the current O levels, wow...ACS, SAJ, SCGS, and to some extent SNGS will cry foul. Because their affiliates' discount is greater than some others.
They'll engage parents anyway. He said he'd update in next year's Budget COS, so this grading system can be placed on the back burner for the time being. :rotflmao:
Only parents who are affected, i.e. 2021 and later, need to bother!
For 2017-2020, we should ask if new DSA criteria will affect us!
How come everyone is so conservative with the score (10 pts, 9pts)
.. I thought maybe PSLE score 2 pts to get into RGS, RI or HCI, just like the 'o' levels pts to JCs.

No, not on its way 'out'...It cannot be 'out', because PM never said 'out' in 2013 NDR speech.Zappy:
Looks like DSA Academic is on its way out too...
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/sin ... 76764.html
\"...the ministry aims to sharpen the focus of the DSA to better recognise talents and achievements in specific domains, rather than general academic ability that can be demonstrated through the PSLE.\"
NCM only said:
Meanwhile, the Direct School Admission (DSA) scheme, which was introduced in 2004 to promote holistic education for students, will undergo a review to bring it back to its original policy intent, said Mr Ng, who noted βsome unevenness in how different schools select their DSA studentsβ.
The review will seek to open up more options in more secondary schools for students with specific aptitudes and talents to nurture their interests and talents. The MOE will also try to βsharpen the focusβ of the scheme to better recognise studentsβ talents and achievements in specific domains, rather than looking only at their general academic ability as reflected by PSLE scores.
I hope he can expand on this in 2-3 months' time as he has promised to do so this morning in Parl:
1. \"Meanwhile\" - so after MOE's review, how will this affect candidates taking PSLE before 2021? That is, will the tweaked DSA to place more emphasis on non-academic abilities apply to 2017-2020 batches? Or only kicks in in 2021?
2. In 2015, HSK mentioned 2 programmes will be developed by the secondary schools to let students have more choices. NCM didn't elaborate on what programmes these are.
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/more-secondary-education/2067184.html
Will they be available to the 2017-2020 batches?
3. I note the word \"general\" in \"general academic ability\". Currently, if I'm not wrong, DSA thru academic is not via \"general\" ability, right? Thought it's through 1 specialised subject, say English or Math?? :scratchhead: Those with generally good grades won't even stand a chance vs those with special MO awards or SO awards?
4. Will DSA Academic domain be totally removed? If yes, when? 2021? Or anytime now 2017 till 2020? I note the use of \"Meanwhile...\"
5. How will this affect GEP applicants, if this domain is to be removed or downplayed?
6. If the new DSA selection criteria is to be implemented anytime before 2021, what are the things students due for PSLE2017-2020 should look out for in terms of CCA commitments, special talent development, achievements? Can he give us some heads-up?
GEP = General Academic Ability, no? So no DSA thru General Academic Ability means DSA thru GEP is scrapped?
As noted, currently DSA Academic for Mainstream students are subject specific, so that will continue? -

The final PSLE point/aggregate cannot possibly be too ridiculously small, as: 1) PSLE only has 4 subjects but O level looks at 6 subjects; 2) they need to use this MAGIC POINT to deduct bonus points (if they adopt this method); they need it to sieve out the \"creme de la creme\"; and 4) to stream some 39-40K candidates into NT/NA/EXP/SAP/IP for distribution into 153 schools.
The band must be wider. Within A, you might have A1 - A5....Within B, you might see B6 - B10.
I hope they won't include E & F grades for PSLE2021. Our 12-yo kids' weak hearts cannot accept grades with the letters, \"E\" and \"F\", on their 1st high stakes exam certificate! So a wider band of grades with prefix \"A\" to encourage them, please...
Will leave it to the MOE/SEAB statisticians to work out... -

I have friends whose children already in school team. Outside, they still send their children to reputable coaches!!!! Talk about DSA....this is the extreme that parents will do for their children as long as no obstacles blocked their path for their children to use DSA to enter sec sch as long as they have loads of spare cash to dispose.ngl2010:
Jetsetter, parents can always send for CCA tuition/enrichment e.g. those in sports. There are many coaches ready to coach children...
Oh dear! That's really extreme! :faint:
I was thinking of maybe boy scouts, boys brigade, girl guides n UG that cannot be trained.
For CCA sports, I thought students are already trained by school coaches?
For performing arts, I believe there's no need to seek external training? The school trainers or music teachers will train them to read scores n play instruments.
So scary :yikes:
