You are completely wrong. Nygh is very good at their image marketing. Behind the scene, they are about themselve and their cronyism. We were completely put off by her explanation of their selection criteria. You can clarify with Mdm Heng again, if you are invited for the tea session.

Actually when DSA is concern, the school has its right to choose their student based on their own selection criteria. Mdm Heng did mention that she will prefer some diversity among her girls. If purely based on results, they might as well get all intakes from PSLE rather than spending many of their precious afternoon interviewing the potential students.

One of my girl's friend was invited on the first day of interview, during the interview session, the interview panels did not really interview them as they were grouped in a group of 8. They had some casual talk and play games for 30min. Mdm Heng was there and everyone seems to be very nice and polite. When the outcome was release, some girls from that group were give CO while some(outstanding girl, eventually top PSLE scorer of her primary school) were given waiting list. The question is: On what basis NYGH make their judgement? by how the girl play games? eat burger (as that group were served with finger food)?

To put it very nicely is \" Diversity\". Using this , not everyone was given a fair chance as they did not even try to differentiate every applicant fairly.

I have said enough about NYGH. Judge for yourself what kind of value NYGH trying to promote. In the name of \"Diversity\", who knows, some of these being selected are someone they already have connection with, or someone related to someone...etc

NYGH, is time for you to drop your affiliation practise. Embrace everyone based on the merit, not by personal preference(diversity) or relation.

Affiliation to enter secondary school is a form of cronyism. Don't you agree?

And what's the selection criteria that's so objectionable to you ?
In the name of \"diversity\",even your child's personal data is the same with another child. You child is not being selected because you may be from school B instead of school C. May be, because you are the reason. Too many parents using Nissan. The school wants someone using BMW.....etc.... A lot of may be... but, not a very fair reason that allow those involved to manipulate the outcome.

I think your statement is not very fair to nygh leh. Top psle scorer so what? maybe nygh is looking for non-academic criteria (READ: character, values) which could be displayed through the games?

Who were those rejected in your DD's year? Popular sch toppers, Geppers, neighbourhood school toppers?

Play games and eat burgers - not sure if the panel was quietly observing their mannerism, table etiquette, decorum, character/values (kiasuism : chiong 1st to buffet, sharing of food with others, chomp noisily instead of nibble, loudness of voice and laughter, poise & grace when seated, personal grooming, sportsmanship, leadership).

Don't underestimate interactive games. Might hv some bearing, who knows. Dun flame me, but methinks the choice of burger could be deliberate. There's a tricky way to eat burgers for ladies.

Believe it or not, as a job interviewer, I also look at candidates nails, hair and how they drink that beverage I offer you. These are all soft skills. Can't fault the P.

Is always like that, when the top school did not accept our child, we blame it on the school's unfairness.
If our girls did not receive CO or WL from RGS, parents blame it on Geppers, because they feel that the school give priority to the Geppers.
And when RGS accepts our girl but NYGH rejects her, we feel that my girl is good enough for RGS so why is she not good enough for NYGH to accept her? Only if both schools accept our girl, we feel great that both schools are good schools
I'm sure both schools have their own set of criteria in selecting the type of girls they feel can fit into their program well.
And when our girl is rejected, it does not mean she's not good enough, it may be just on that day she did not do well in her interview. Just like when a top student did not ultimately become the top PSLE student in her own school, it's not because she's not smart. It may be due to nervousness or restlessness, whereas her peers performed better because they are less nervous or they rested well during the PSLE exam period.

Parents who try DSA have to mentally prepared for rejection.

Yes, reactions displayed during the interactive games or during interview may reveal the personality of the child.

These are natural reactions thus reflect well in the child’s behaviour, strengths and weaknesses.

I recall how a CO via DSA (acad) was offered to a girl from a neighbourhood school scoring 80s for her academic subjects while another girl from Nyps scoring the same kind of marks was turned down in the same year. My quiet conclusion was that nygh preferred to take in girls from other schools to nyps during DSA. I thought the DSA process at NYGH was an unfair game to the affiliated school but I felt since the girls already had that affiliation advantage, I guess it all evens out.

DSA is not just the time for the girls to pick the schools they like, it's also a time when secondary schools accept the ones they have earmarked ie. National champion in the name of DSA. It will not be a system or process which satisfies or appeases everyone, like any other systems that weigh heavily on opinions and achievements.

I shudder to think that girls as young as 12 or 13 are assessed based on the way they eat their food and I certainly hope this is just our wild imagination. There are many who are able to exhibit exemplary manners and etiquettes in public but behave otherwise at home. Unless a girl has gone through some etiquette and grooming courses, I would not expect a 12- or 13-year-old to eat like a trained princess.
