I shudder to think that girls as young as 12 or 13 are assessed based on the way they eat their food and I certainly hope this is just our wild imagination. There are many who are able to exhibit exemplary manners and etiquettes in public but behave otherwise at home. Unless a girl has gone through some etiquette and grooming courses, I would not expect a 12- or 13-year-old to eat like a trained princess.
for Upper primary (P5/P6) girls -
do primary schools send professional coach down to school premises, as part of \"social etiquette, grooming\" enrichment courses conducted by schools, to provide training to P5/P6 soon-to-graduate girls : how to eat, drink, talk, sit, behave, at appropriate school function ?

      (sorry, side track a bit)

In the past, the one in AMK did provide such personal grooming classes like facial training. The P was very into cultivating graceful ladies. But that was in sec sch.

        Not sure abt now.

Play games and eat burgers - not sure if the panel was quietly observing their mannerism, table etiquette, decorum, character/values (kiasuism : chiong 1st to buffet, sharing of food with others, chomp noisily instead of nibble, loudness of voice and laughter, poise & grace when seated, personal grooming, sportsmanship, leadership).

Don't underestimate interactive games. Might hv some bearing, who knows. Dun flame me, but methinks the choice of burger could be deliberate. There's a tricky way to eat burgers for ladies.

Believe it or not, as a job interviewer, I also look at candidates nails, hair and how they drink that beverage I offer you. These are all soft skills. Can't fault the P.

I recall how a CO via DSA (acad) was offered to a girl from a neighbourhood school scoring 80s for her academic subjects while another girl from Nyps scoring the same kind of marks was turned down in the same year. My quiet conclusion was that nygh preferred to take in girls from other schools to nyps during DSA. I thought the DSA process at NYGH was an unfair game to the affiliated school but I felt since the girls already had that affiliation advantage, I guess it all evens out.

DSA is not just the time for the girls to pick the schools they like, it's also a time when secondary schools accept the ones they have earmarked ie. National champion in the name of DSA. It will not be a system or process which satisfies or appeases everyone, like any other systems that weigh heavily on opinions and achievements.

Agreed. Hope it's really a figment of my imagination! 🦆

But pleasant disposition plays a role too. Same reason why kids must have their haircut prior to PSLE oral, and don clean uniforms n shoes to attend dsa intvs...

Parents who try DSA have to mentally prepared for rejection.

I cannot agree more. Given that any kind of selection based on broad criteria is uncertain, then parents should be prepared that the outcome may not be what they desire. More importantly, they need to prepare their kids to be able to accept the outcome, whatever it may be. My daughter was unsuccessful in her DSA application to RGS but she got in later, and has been a good student and an active participant in school activities. The school can't get it \"right\" every time.

I was not talking about rejection. I was talking about the reason of rejection.
for nygh to shortlist a girl for an interview, yet not seriously interview her but to ask the girl to eat burger and play games. Then, reject the girl. Is this acceptable? And the reason is \"diversity\"? is this a school selecting a student? it is more like a king selecting a \"concubine\" in the past. Ha ha....

My point is, if nygh is not even interested in the girl, don waste their time. Reject them directly. Don waste the burger, they can go some other place to eat burger....

But you will never know until you meet the student[/quote]I knew that student. she was also Character Award winner from the primary school. I knew her personally. We felt for this. Nygh shd give a clearer explanation for that girl. Not use \"Diversity\" to cover up the reason behind their decision which they are not willing to be honest about it.

If they don want too many students from the same sxhool, then, should state so before everyone start to apply.
