Everything was submited to nygh, if nygh does not know? Then, is worst, on what basis are they choosing their student? Randomly? Relationship? Who know who? WhiCH primary school they were from?.....

If nygh suspect her ability? Why nygh did not give her test? Is this fair?

For her, no test, invited for tea and eat burger... ask casual question.... then, rejection.

DSA is discretionary, so we have to accept that schools have the freedom to make their own decisions, whether or not we agree with them. I think that quite a lot can be discerned through casual meetings over burgers and games. Even if we disagree with the school's decision, the fact is that it is at their discretion. We can simply avoid such selection events in future, but I have heard that some universities and organisations now have non-standard type of selections events too where candidates are observed in other settings and activities, not just tests and formal interviews.

Top acad student in A sch, top all-rounder student, top PSLE scorer does not equate to good performance in dsa burger + drink session (or other sch nterviews). Unless u are present in the burger + drink session & personally witness how outstanding the girl has performed vs others in same grp who receive CO, only then u have a valid stand to challenge the school's decision.

Believe it or not, sometimes things happen for a reason.

Same goes to Edusave Character Award selection.

‘awards are given to a maximum of 2% of Singaporean students in each school at the end of the year.’

Is up to the school teachers to select the 2%. Those who were not awarded didn’t mean they do not have
exemplary character and outstanding personal qualities. For some unknown reasons Student A is chosen instead of Student B

There’s some X factor that the teachers must have identified and select the students.

My personal take away from having tried DSA to both NYGH and RGS, and having been through the rounds two years back, is that if the school is very confident that the candidate will be able to enter through PSLE T-Score, they might give the opportunity to another candidate whom they believe has potential to grow with the school too.


This is because the first candidate will be able to join the school through her T-Score, and the DSA spot offered to the second candidate will allow for diversity.

To me, DSA is to allow the school to offer places to pupils who might fall short of the cut-off points; but whom the school would like to have and groom.

I still think NY is right. You may have forgotten that it is a DSA exercise, I would think NY is wrong if NY did not give her CO if is a PSLE intake. What test are you talking about? GAT test? So are you complaining that NY exempted her from GAT test and gone straight to interview? Isn’t this a privilege / bonus? I think GEP and SMOP gold can be exempted from GAT the past few years.

I have different views. If dsa were for those who fall short of the cut-off, many many neighbourhood students out there also fall short of it.

So students who fall short of the cut off and not selected or not participating in dsa need to compete with those whose academic is very good but not offered dsa? Then wont the COP for top schools/IP programe be driven up and cause more stress?

Now, I see, what is NYGH all about and its supporter for the school and how people would embrace "diversity" while not speak up for those that are not treating fairly. The ideology of "diversity" without purposeful fairness is dangerous. Nygh should not assume or estimate or predict how each applicant going to perform during PSLE. For those who has shown consistent work before PSLE should be treated equality as anyone else. For every applicant is serious about their application, took their time and effort to admit to the school. Nygh should not turn down someone based on their PSLE prediction, or any other kind of unspoken preferences and treat each applicant with different lens. For every applicant should be weighed based on the same criteria if the applicants applied in the same category. Although what NYGH and RGS do their DSA will not affect me anymore as I don’t any DD will be applying. I hope all applicants can be treated fairly, seriously, equally based on some very just criteria.
