Yes, so sad that some parent(s) just can't accept DSA rejection by schools & keep going merry go round, unfair on this & that. If i'm NYGH P, I will be also glad that I had made the right decision.

To all 2016 P6 parents & students who intend to dsa, pls pls plsssss manage yr own expectations first. Don't bear a grudge against a school juz because they dun offer a CO to your child or to someone u know who is top, top, top in everything in pri sch.

From my understanding, you just need 250 above (as compared to 265 for non-affiliated) to enter NYGH if you are from NYPS…if she is top top top top…why on earth she would want to waste her time DSA to NYGH? I wonder how many NYPS girls DSA to NYGH every year? Assuming most NYPS girls who DSA into NYGH will meet the 250 cutoff, wouldn’t it is better since that will leave more space for other school students during S1 posting? I would suspect majority of those who DSA to NYGH are not from NYPS…there is no logic if they take in NYPS through DSA unless special cases…double privileges??


Does NYPS has more girl than boy since they have no affiliation to any school? I wonder how the boy will feel if he has the same 250 as the girls but the girls will enter NYGH leading to HCI but the boy might not get into any IP school…this is more unfair right?..as compared to the top top top not accepting by NYGH through DSA…

Side track abit…I have a feeling NYGH is having a higher profile than RGS lately…

The history of NYGH and NYPS is tightly intertwined. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, they used to be the same school. It was only later that they were split and housed on different plots of land. The relationship between NYGH & NYPS is no different from as an example, MGS (sec) and MGS (pri). It's bcoz they are physically separated now, thus that intimate relationship is lost to some.


While it's a great advantage to be affiliated to an established school like NYGH, so far I have not heard of any NYPS boy who begrudges his female counterparts of this privilege. Many boys at age 12 are 'minimalist'. In a way, not having any affiliation will incentivise them to work harder for PSLE.

From what I know, only NYPS has this unique situation in Singapore where only one of the sexes has affiliation to a secondary school.


They should just become full girls school, there will definitely no lacks of potential students.

Why not? ACPS and RGPS are all single sex school that run the GEP program. Well, if it is a full girls school, there will probably more girls will move on to NYGH and lesser space for others.

1. You're not the parent of that 275-scorer, and you're alleging that the P and school had been unfair. May I know whether your DD was rejected by NYGH too, though you mentioned she had RGS CO thru Eng domain?

2. This girl you're sticking your neck out for. Was she a GEPer or MSer? You said she had more talents than others. Did she have other outstanding non-academic talents, besides that Character Award and excellent general academic results? And may I know whether she was from NYPS, your DD's former school in the NE, or neighbourhood schools? You'd suggested that P was biased towards certain p-schs.

3. Any idea if the rest of the girls in her tea party were given CO or all were outrightly rejected? I ask this because you seem to imply the girls were taken on a joy ride and merely invited to \"凑数\", as if to make the school appear to be fair? Maybe unbeknown to you, the rest had something non-academic/ different to offer that she hadn't?

4. If you don't know the outcome of that girl's group, how about your DD's own session? Or schoolmates from your DD's own school in other sessions? Did you observe any reliable & consistent trend that made you draw such a negative conclusion and bear a grudge - on her behalf - for 1 year? :scared:

If you didn't conduct an 'exit poll' after each tea party, then your grouse is based solely on one isolated instance. Is that being fair to the school?

5. You alleged that the P selected candidates based on her prediction of their PSLE scores, and implied her judgment was flawed because the girl would later go on to score 275. Won't you agree that the P was spot-on to reject this girl who didn't need the DSA ticket at all?

IMO, P made the right call. She was merely heeding MOE's call by being inclusive and embracing diversity when she awarded COs to well-rounded candidates, not pure brains with general academic ability like that girl (unless you tell us otherwise). Isn't that what some gripers are griping about now, i.e. if you're academically competent and possess no niche talent, you should rely on your T-score to get into that same dream school?

6. Your concept of \"diversity\" is wanting and bereft of common sense. NYGH is not a special needs school and all girls' schools don't take in boys, so don't stretch your argument! SAP is not a problem, because SAP IP schools have always included well-deserving non-SAP p-sch candidates, and non-SAP IP schs also welcome SAP candidates. Some IP schs don't even give discounts to affiliates. SAP IP schs never have problem with staff or candidates whose MT isn't Chinese, don't play the race card to make your case.

7. You also insinuated they were discriminated on socioeconomic grounds when you made reference to cars. Again, you need to back this up before accusing them of cronyism. Perhaps some BMW kids were also rejected like this girl?

FYI: My friend's DD who was a MSer got into NYGH thru Sports and they live in a HDB flat and don't drive a BMW.

8. You failed to enlighten us if she'd received a CO from another top IP school, or whether she used T-score to get into one in the end. If she'd received one from RGS or equivalent, then what's your beef? :scratchhead:

Was it a case of a gem's ego being bruised because she only had 1 premium cherry on her plate to cherry-pick? But why should you feel bruised for her if there was a happy ending? :scratchhead:

I don't like to beat about the bush, so let me cut to the chase what I believe is the case, but feel free to correct me if I'm grossly wrong:

Girl was one of the gems from a non-SAP GEP sch that has no affiliated sec sch? But she didn't have any other awards besides ECHA and general academic excellence? As such you thought P was biased towards SAP p-sch applicants because girl's sch wasn't? And you lashed out at the \"cronies\" because you believed the school accorded preference to their own affiliates?

Look, you cannot always expect to get what you want or desire in life. Many capable people can't even get COs. If she'd already received an alternative coveted CO and scored well, why keep brooding over NYGH's rejection?

Isn't she supposed to possess a Character Award? Someone who begrudges an institution that doesn't give her that \"right\" (in your own words), and who isn't gracious and big-hearted to let it go, has a character flaw. What kind of Values in Action are we talking about? :roll:

Suppose she only had what you said she had, then I've to commend the NYGH P for having the foresight to give COs to more deserving students with non-academic talents/CCA, subject-specific talent, and/or exemplary character. That's not cronyism. That's positive discrimination. That's inclusiveness.

In any case, I guess this girl must have moved on. So must you. I hope she'd taken this minor setback in her stride. She's going to face more rejections/failures when she joins the workforce in future, so let that be an early lesson on \"Who Moved My Cheese?\"

I know you want to seek reasons of rejection and clarity of explanation, but there's no point in pursuing, because you may never get it. In the working world, job rejections are aplenty and often unexplained by prospective employers, even if you are armed with straight A's and look your best on the day of interview. Some don't even inform you of the outcome.

Your cannot begrudge the interviewer for taking away your \"right\" (to know why), as the interviewer does not take away your \"right\" to cherrypick all the job offers, and then ditch them ultimately for the best. You need to ditch that \"right\" mentality.
