I also need to ask, for the no. of registration in each phrase that is published in website like Edumatters, they do not show how many from less than 1km, 1-2km, etc?-- > this info we have to call the sch up everyday to ask right?

There is no official grouping of the schools into such Tier, but rather it's implied based on the public's opinion. Your understanding is more or less correct.

You're also right that only the schools themselves can provide the breakdown on how many applicants per distance group. Not every school is willing to give you the data though. The best is to hang around the registration area as most schools (not all) have a board to update the numbers regularly.

Tier 2 - Schools who may or may not need balloting for applications (usually balloting only for those 1-2 km), but which there is no more vacancies after Phase 2C.
Tier 3 - Schools which still have vacancies for non-Singaporean citizens.

These schools are \"tiered\" solely out of their popularity, it may not be a good representation of the performance of the school as we also see neighbourhood schools out performing. But in general, schools are popular and \"hot\" because of the performance of the school so these 2 are closely co-related.

Thanks galaxyraider and Oh My Gosh for the explanation. Really must ponder over such issues. I think I will just submit my registration for phrase 2B first for sch A and monitor the stats for the sch B for phrase 2C and see if there is a need for balloting for sch B for SC less than 1km. will call the sch and bug them for the stats!!

You will have a higher chance with Zhangde than RMPS.

How far are you from ALPS?

Those people who told you not to consider Zhangde, do they know how it is like in RMPS?

Zhangde usually holds an open house in July. You may want to attend it and see for yourself what the environment is liked. People who told you not to consider Zhangde probably because they felt their children and the school weren't a fit. You know your child better than them, so see for yourself whether the school is good for your child.

I’m an old girl of Fairfield so thinking of registering under 2A2. My husband volunteered at SCGS primary so if no need to ballot (we live outside 2km) under 2B, we are thinking of withdrawing from Fairfield to apply at SCGS. But it’ll be quite a risk still if at the last minute the number of applications surge for SCGS… The school is very selective for PV but no idea what the grassroots volunteer numbers are. Any advice?
