      Hi parents,

I am going to register for my elder son for P1 this year, my first choice is Seng Kang Green (<1km), given the fact that SKG is over subscribed heavily last year (need to ballot even stay within 1km). I'd need to have a backup plan. Below are the backup schools I shortlisted (based on past year result, should still have vacancy for 2C supp). Can parents here give me your thoughts about the schools and if you were me how would you set the back up priority? Thanks for your advice, much appreciated. 😄

      Fernvale primary school (<1km)
Palm View primary school (>1km, <2km)
      Springdale primary school (>1km, <2km)
      Anchor Green primary school(>1km, <2km)
      Seng Kang primary school (>2km)

      Hihi,

We are also going to try Sengkang Green, but based on last year's record, only Anchor Green and Seng Kang Primary school need not ballot at phase 2Cs.
Which backup primary school will you be choosing?

Based on last year result, Palm View only need to ballot for those stay outside 2km and Springdale only need to ballot for those stay 1-2km in phrase 2C supp but with more new flats around I think this may not be the case any more.

Sengkang Green is going to be oversubscribed this year again, due to many flats TOP in 2018, they are able to register to this school as well. Oh well... stressed.

parent how do you choose school ?

            based on distance
            or based on PSLE result
or based on student care in school ?

Based on distance AND affiliation. I don't really care about historical PSLE results. After all it's just a primary school. To me, affiliation with secondary school is more important, so it can reduce my stress level during PSLE period. 😄

affilation but if score not enuff also no use cannot get in right ?

The balloting history published in the forum is not wrong but a 10year historical trend.

It does not reflect local and yearly trends.

The key change for the Sengkang area is the VERY large number of new housing, especially within 1km of Nan Chiau.

(For those of us without any connection, or the wrong race/religion/language)
Before 2015, if you live within 1KM of Nan Chiau, you can try your luck at the 20 places (It’s 20 for 2B, 20 for 2C, NOT 40 for 2C) for Phase 2C and if you fail, it is guaranteed that you can fall back to Springdale at 2CS without balloting.

In 2015, however, Springdale had balloting for 2CS for < 1KM, which means that if you had tried your luck at NC in 2C, there is a high possibility your kid cannot even get into Springdale.

Hence for parents registering your children in 2016 for the 2017 P1 cohort, you effectively have only 1 shot during 2C. If you miss, then 2CS is an unknown.

is it true that this year competition will be less for NC for Tiger children?

chinese basically dun like tiger so most wont plan for tiger baby :rotflmao:

but if the tiger kid got sibling in dragon year then better choose wisely so that dragon baby can go in same school easily
