      Totorolongmao:

      Hi,

The ACS OBA includes the entire ACS family right up to ACJC. I would like to find out for primary 1 registration, phase 2A1, does it mean whoever is in OBA qualifies even if he was only from the secondary/JC? Or phase 2A1 is strictly for OBA members from the PRIMARY school?

      Thanks!

I'm concerned because i have heard of other schools such as st nicks that have a combined alumni resulting in balloting at phase 2a1 !

depend on whether the Secondary school is a full school, or not.

Reminder that only ACS (Primary) and ACS (Junior) old boys, qualify to send theirs sons go back to their respective primary school.

Old boys of only ACS (Secondary) not eligible -
because ACS Secondary is not a full school.

in contrast, old girls from CHIJ St Nicholas Secondary, qualify to send their daughters back to St Nick primary, because St Nick Secondary IS a full school. They have a combined alumni, resulting in balloting at phase 2a1!

Yes, this is correct. Only the primary school alumni are eligible to register for their old school only. They are not even eligible to register for the other primary school. Of course, the number might be increasing, but so far no balloting required in Phase 2A.

        true

        reminder that
        - only ACS (Primary) old boys : qualify to send their sons back to ACS (Primary), only.
These old boys, cannot register at ACS (Junior).

the \"sister\" school to ACS :
MGS (Secondary), IS a full school.

        for Methodists
ACS (Secondary) is not a full school
        but, MGS (Secondary) is.

        for Catholic
in contrast to ACS, both \"brother and sister\" Catholic schools, are full schools.
Catholic High and St Nick : are \"brother and sister\" mission schools.

        eg
Catholic High (Secondary), IS a full school.

CHIJ St Nicholas (Secondary), IS also a full school.

Maris Stella High (Secondary), IS a full school.
But Maris Stella High (boys) : doesn't have a \"sister\" school, to pair up with.

although above 5 are missionary schools, yet there is a difference, in terms of full school.

SCGS (Secondary) : although non-missionary, IS also a full school.

What do you think will happen in phase 2C this year for the above schools? It looks like both may end up going for ballot under 1km. So far junior seems to be following last yearโ€™s trend, but primary looks to be going for ballot at 2A2. I think this has never happened before. Am I right?

Looks like it. Those old boys who chose not to join the OBA would be kicking themselves when they're balloted out in 2A2.

While ACSP might be going against the trend, it seems that ACSJ is still following the trend. There might still be balloting in 2B for those >2km and 2C for those <1km.

based on Moe statistics, for Phase 2A(1) alumni (kids born 2010, year of Tiger) -
out of 126 vacancies available for Phase 2A(1), 119 had already registered.

Yes, more than > 100+ over kids had registered in 2A1
(seldom see so many kids registered, in this alumni Phase)

              126 - 119 = 7 vacancies left, for ex students in remaining Phase 2A(2)

              question :
Will there be more than 7 kids registering in Phase 2A(2), next Tuesday ?
If Yes, then ACS (primary) will ballot, under Phase 2A(2).

For SC within 1km to ACSP and ACSJ, which school has more chance under phase 2C? Need to join church to play safe?

ACS Junior would have more chance from history and this year.

But you still need to prepare a backup school as it's high chance that both ACS will go into balloting for SC <1km in Phase 2C.

At the end of 2016 Phase 2A(1), kids born in Year of Tiger -
How many seats are left, at ACS (Junior) ?
                      Answer : 154 - 65 = 89

In contrast, How about ACS (Primary)?
                      only 7 seats, left

which school is more popular, or much harder to get in ?
Is it Junior or Primary ?

There is a very big difference, between 89 seats vs 7 seats left, isn't it ?
The number itself : indicate which is easier to enter, doesn't it ?

                      Why, so ?
Primary bear the Gep status, whereas Junior doesn't bear Gep status.
                      Junior is ordinary, Mainstream.

At the end of Primary 3 -
If your son in Junior is offered Gep by Moe, after clearing 2 round of P3 screening tests, he can transfer to Primary readily, as Junior is given priority to transfer to Primary, if student can clear the tests.

If you refer past P1 registration stats, somehow parents have this urge, very keen to enrol their kid into Schools, that bear the Gep status.
Look at so many parents eager to enrol into Nanyang, Henry Park, Catholic High, St Hilda, Nan Hua, Tao Nan, Rosyth.

Your reasoning may apply for Phase 2B onwards but for 2A1 so it's only for alumni (2A2 for former students). If they wanted to, ACPS alumni / former students cannot apply to ACJS as they are not alumni of the junior school.

I am an old boy. Quite a number of us had no idea about GEP, the specific school programs etc - I certainly don't and am only starting to educated in the last couple of weeks when I read this forum more actively. ๐Ÿ˜„ For most of the old boys, it is quite natural to send our sons to our old school.

I think it's just how the numbers lie this year where quite a few old boys' sons are born in 2010. Some have also mentioned that ACJS was a smaller school in the old days hence less old boys compared to ACPS. By contract, ACJS is a larger school today with 270 seats vs. ACPS's 240 seats also add to number of vacancies for subsequent phases.
