assuming there is no prior connection to the school as in former student, it is not possible to be under school's advisory board ie 2A1?

IMHO the School Advisory Committee is like one of those shady grassroot organisations in your constituency. You know they are there, there are a number of members in them but you have no idea who/what they are :rotflmao:

The board is typically made up of grassroot leaders, businessmen, philanthropist, etc. i.e. \"prominent\" members of the public which may or may not be former students.

Besides being a permanent subject Teacher inside the school (but not ex student) : I wonder if a relief Tr who is very, very active inside the school, always chairing this or that committee, highly invisible in front of the Principal -
can be considered to come under the school's advisory board.

        Eg
Since Nanyang primary is a much coveted school, curious to find out how some people (not ex student of NYPS) can come under Phase 2A1, under the so-called school's advisory board category.

(some friends with kids due for P1 registration in a few years' time, are keen to know)[/quote]As floppy has explained, SAC consists of \"prominent\" members of the public, incl new immigrants with $ I presume. Did you notice that one ksp shared there were supposed to be 110 alumni vying for 153 2A1 places this year, but the final figure on MOE table shows more than 110, i.e. 125. Didn't know where the extra popped up...
        mumto2:
he got a form that states that they are successful. apparently 110 alumni for 153 places. The no of alumni is less than the no of vacancy

I do have a question wrt the school staff for 2A2. Do they consider canteen and bookshop staff as school staff? I ask because many years ago, an ex-colleague of mine said her ds got into HPPS cos her PILs were canteen vendors of HPPS. I didn't ask if they lived <1km though.

Reporting in for P1 registration come 2018!!! I've got a dragon girl and a horse girl. Super stressed up already. Thanks to this forum, at least we have more info and can make better-informed decisions. *stress to the max* 😞

Would like to know is it really too late to apply under Grassroots? How is this process done? Maybe I can still do so for my horse girl...

          Thank you!
Same here HHMummy, I've a 1 dragon girl and a horse girl 😂
Not so sure about the Grassroot but you may want to check with the school about the PV for your elder daughter first.
For me I have sent in the PV application & also in the mid of moving  never expect myself doing all these

For NYPS, the smc members are....
            http://www.nanyangpri.moe.edu.sg/school ... -committee
You can always google them and see if they are \"prominent\" 😉

hey, what you shared about the bookshop vendor/staff, canteen operator staff, cleaner staff in school, etc ... sounds interesting

Many years ago, my ex neighbour, last time (many years ago) sell soft drink (Bandung, chin chow grass jelly, etc) in canteen, at one of the Hokkien clan primary schools.

He himself never studied there before, in that Hokkiek clan school.
But, somehow he managed to enrol his 2 sons and one daughter, into this Hokkien Huay Kian school.
Those days (> 40 years ago) : don't have Phase 2B parent volunteer scheme exist yet. And definitely stayed more than 2 km under phase 2c, from this very popular Hokkien clan school. Now, every year, sc less than 1 km : must ballot

(wondered how he managed to enrol his eldest son in first, subsequently, his 2 other kids follow suit, under Phase 1 sibling)

Did the ksp register in the morning? The other 15 could register in the afternoon.

Whether register in the morning or afternoon, the registration numbers are all kept in running sequence, consecutively one after another

Never mind...she got 110 from her sibling anyway.

15 extra could also be twins or triplets like BD's suggested.

As for coming from SAC, I reckon at most 1 kid, once in a blue moon.

LOL! My friend's registration was 4 years ago, not 40 yrs ago. 😂
About 40 years ago...since you mentioned, do note there was already Phase 2 (but no breakdown into A1, A2, B).
The SAC and school staff (canteen or bookshop seller or watchman we dunno!) were all inside liao. Please read http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=18535&p=1328754&hilit=alumni+phase#p1328754.

It's good if they extend to canteen vendors, bookshop staff, cleaners, security guards. They are part of the big family.

But the moe site states that ‘parent’ is the one who qualifies, not the grandparent:

                        (b) For a child whose parent is a staff member of the primary school of choice

So technically, even if the PILs are staff members of the school, it doesn’t place them at 2A2.

It will be good if someone is ‘proactive’ enough to check out what ‘staff member’ means though. Cleaners and security guards are employees of cleaning and security companies/vendors so strictly speaking, they are not ‘staff members’ of the school. Canteen and bookshop vendors are usually seen as independent vendors. If they are also staff members of a school, then how does MOE draw the line between these vendors and music instructors, cca instructors and enrichment vendors who also provide services to the school?
