After phase 2A2, there will be intense pressure at 2B and 2C. If can’t make it at 2A2, then it will be very much harder at 2C. For those with younger siblings, parents are former students, or parent is a teacher in the school, many will secure a place first.

I can understand why some parents will risk balloting phase 2A2. If you lose out on a place, you still have phase 2B and 2C with at least 20 places each in all schools to try. But not the same for parents when it comes to the later phases, especially 2C.

I suspect many of these parents, who apply in phase 2A1/2 are staying more than 2km away.
Would these parents risk the ballot in phase 2C? If you lose out on a place, the choices for 2C supplementary are so limited. Some schools even go for ballot in phase 2C supp.
The real danger are for those who are left with no option but 2C. Since a lot of schools go for balloting at this phase, many parents are willing to try for their old school, even if is far from their home.
Most parents whom I have come across in other threads in this forum feel it is better to send your kid to schools far away of a reasonably good standing than risk balloting in 2C in good schools near their home.

\"MOE said the changes are part of a larger shift to nurture well-rounded individuals and move away from an over-emphasis on academic results. They will reduce fine differentiation of students - a key complaint of the current scoring system; reflect a student's level of achievement regardless of how his peers have done; and encourage families to choose schools based on their suitability for the child's learning needs, talents and interests.\"

will this affect the way parent choose primary school ?

A summary of PSLE changes and considerations

Think wouldn't change too much on primary school selection as it's too early to tell. Here's hoping PSLE will not be so stressful for the future primary school kids.

And that's the end of Phase 2A. Looks like minimal changes from yesterday.

Only the expected 3 schools balloting, I think.

Why do you think it’s worse than today? I find the bar may lower rather than raised. For example, HMT is no longer a factor unless one wants to go to SAP school so we won’t have kids taking it just to get a few more points?

I may be missing something here so quite keen to hear your rationale.

The good thing is that our kids who go to P1 next year will be the second batch to come under the new scoring system. At least we can see how the system affects the older batch of PSLE kids.

I feel it is better than the previous system. Similar to O levels now. No top kid, only top scorers like O level.
The secondary schools will be ranked according to their cut off scores like JC’s.

S1 posting under the new system is ridiculous. All depending on luck now as most may subject to balloting cos the point diff is not great so many students will fall under the same range. Its no longer by your hardwork and how well u score in psle as the ultimate factor to go into school of your choice. So unfair…

:goodpost: And I don't think I have seen anyone accused the O levels and A levels as not being fair and should go more towards to current PSLE instead.
