While it is not an extremely popular choice among parents, there are some odd years where the school faces balloting. I suspect that the reason for it's \"unpopularity\" is geographical. The school has an extremely small natural catchment because <1km are mainly low density housing, and between 1km and 2km is a huge landmass that is inhabitable (i.e. MINDEF, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and the reservoirs).

This year, however, is unlikely to be one of those balloting years as the application rate thus far falls on the lower end of the scale. Coupled with this year's applicants being the Tiger Year (where the birth rate is among the lowest), I doubt there will be a huge surge in demand for this school over the next two days.

Yes, big surprise. Nan Chiau's demand this year in Phase 2C is even more fierce than last year's! Last year only 166 registered after 3 days, while this year, there are already 168 applicants. I suspect that many of these applicants may be PRs trying their luck, so keep your fingers crossed. Then again, the whole Seng Kang area seems to be rather hot, with Sengkang Green also severely oversubscribed.

I think otherwise. 99.9% of the applicants are probably within 1km of NCPS. NCPS will actively discourage or turn away applicants > 1km.

I think so too. Most likely the 168 registered are all less than 1km! SC vs.PR - not sure. Base on current stats, is it ratio 1:2.3 now?

Since it's day 1, we can only guess what the take up would be by day 3.

I won't be able to study the map (on phone) of the area to determine if the neighboring schools will affect each other intake, but it may link:

Kong Hwa take up till 2B is similar to 2015 (81% vs 82%)
Haig girls take up till 2B is 51% in 2016 vs 44% in 2015
Maha bodhi take up till 2B is 72% vs 81% in 2015
GMS take up till 2B is 44% vs 50% in 2015

For Haig girls in 2015 and 2014, from 2B (43-44%) to the eventual take up till end of 2C was 92-93%. This year (51%) has increased about 7%, seems to be very close to 100% at 2C. However the other schools drop in take up may give you some opportunities in Haig girls. Last year applicants was 90 and the vacancy for 2C this year was 89 at the start.

What you need to do is first choose an alternative choice and then wait until the last day before you decide if you stand a chance in Haig girls or head for your alternative. As your priority ranking is low, any one with a nearer distance can take away the spot. If by end of tomorrow, it's oversubscribe, you can move on to the next choice. Hope it helps.

I am not surprised to see schools in Sengkang (as well as Punggol) being oversubscribed in a lull year.

While this is a Tiger year where birth rate is among the lowest, I doubt that the storks uniformly distributed the babies throughout the island. Sengkang and Punggol, which attracts mainly young families, will probably be housing most of the babies in Singapore.

hi there,I registered at westwood primary yesterday morning..as of 1030 am,was 83 applicants(sc 1km include online)..they state the breakdowns..after I fill up a form,I have to go to the counter whereby the staff there will register for me again thru their computer system and also.photocopy all my original documents...the staff there told me if.balloting required and im unsuccessful,I have to go back to the school and withdraw and then wait for the next phase and register for another school..is it like that?? :scared:

Pretty much - which is why some will withdraw while the Phase 2C is NOT over to apply to another school and avoid balloting if the numbers are too high, i.e. better to secure your 2nd choice now before the next phase where there may be even less choices…

Anyone has any updates on Pei Hwa? My dad helped me to go to the school and check seem like that is no board stating the current statistics. And the people at the registration counter say full!!! But I am within 1km!!! Ask my dad to go to Keming.
