can your daughter recall some of the more challenging English qns, asked ?whitecarrotcake:
There's only one standard English paper. Not so sure about Maths. English paper had the things mentioned by some parents like the monkeys and bananas, the girl who couldn't read, Mona Lisa. Vocab answers were man with crutches hobbled, pancakes were drenched with syrup, people were usheredto their seats and a few others my dd mentioned but I have forgotten. Generally she said the English paper was easier than her school's English papers but Math was way tougher than her school's Maths.
I showed my dd what whitecarrotcake mentioned about the Vocabulary answers. My dd told me those are easy questions. However, she could only recalled the only Vocabulary question in the GEP English Screening test, \"Tom likes sweet things, he likes his pancake drenched in syrup.\"
After school internal P3 Teachers finish marking Gep test (Round 1 ) held on Friday (26/8), Tr will submit students' results to GEB (Gifted Education Board). GEB will collate results from more than 100+ primary schools, determine passing mark for Eng & Maths.
Then return back to individual schools' Principal / VP : a list of names of P3 students, who cleared Round 1, with marks.
VP (Academic) will know for each P3 class : who cleared, move onto Round 2.
When will school notify P3 students, of Round 1 results (whether pass or fail) ?
Is it during that Psle marking week, few days holiday break ? -
This week is a short week -
Thur : half day (Teachers’ Day celebration)
Fri : school holiday (actual Teachers’ day) -
Good morning,
GEP 2015 screening test/round 1 - cloze passages had helping words too. -

Yes, round 1 of GEP screening test papers will be marked by school teachers and then vetted by HODs. MOE will determine the cut-off points. I heard results will be out 4 weeks later. Usually some children from the top class in P3 of the school will most likely get selected, provided that the primary school classified the brightest top 40s students in the top class.
If our children can clear GEP Screening test (Round 1), they will be in the top 10% of the golden piggies babies born in 2007.
If our children did not clear round 1, we must comfort them and tell them we still love them even if they are not selected for round 2 GEP selection test. -
The feeling must be good to know at the top 10%. When a friend spoke to me rather confidently that her child will get 25x in Psle. .guessed it must be due to him clearing Round 1 Gep.

Round 1 always have helping words for cloze passages. It is Round 2 which doesn't have.
Usually, past years Gep test : no helping words for cloze passages, even for Round 1.sembgal:

Read this blog.
So what would you expect on 26 August 2016?
With that advice to you, I now get on to the core of this post. The 2 tests (English and Mathematics) will be conducted on the same day, with a break in between the 2 papers.
The English Paper is 1 hour 15 min and the areas of coverage include Vocabulary, Cloze Passage and Comprehension. The Vocabulary questions are purely multiple-choice questions, and there are 4 choices to each question. However, the available choices have identical meanings and it really takes a child with strong language foundation and ability to decipher the right answer.
The next section is Cloze Passage. There could be 2 or 3 passages, depending on the length of each passage and there are no helping words. Yes, there could be a few answers to each blank.
The last is Comprehension. It is also a multiple-choice section. The tough part about this section is the length of the article. If the child loses his/her focus in reading lengthy article easily, he/she could miss some important points. At this screening stage, there are 4 choices to each question.
The Mathematics Paper is 1 hour 30 min, it is broken up into 2 sections. Section A is multiple-choice questions, there are 4 choices to each question. Section B is short problem sum questions, and the child only needs to write the answer on the blank, there is no need to show working. It may be good to know some questions thrown in are higher level questions. I guess the intention is to sieve out the advance learners. -
See the above blog written by another mummy. She shared that previous year, no helping words provided in Round 1 of GEP English screening test.
However, this year, 2016 P3 GEP English Screening test, helping words were provided. You can go check with your DS or DD about this. I was stunned that helping words were provided this year too. I had to ask my dd a few times to be sure that I did not hear wrongly. -

i think you got confused. It is the same this year, only one set of questions for Round 1. Monkey is pertaining to Cloze passage, not compre passage. They used different booklet, for Round 1 and for Round 2.
Even within the same primary school, P3 students in different classes are given different booklet. That's why some students English compreh passage is on Mona Lisa, another P3 student's passage is about monkey.
Because different booklet used, Maths questions also different.
Not standardise the same booklet thoughout all P3 students.
Whichever booklet been used :
all pupils given the same amount of time, for eng (1 hr 15 min) and for Maths (1 hr 30 min)
Since all of them using different booklet, that's why some kids say they find English more difficult, while another kid may say they find Maths more difficult.
