I always wonder if it would be better/necessary to read up whole Sci text books first before going to papers..for Eng and Math, our pattern is go straight to exam/practice papers. Sci Text book last read was for last SA1. Havent touch the Sci revision till now..i think jialat case for us yeah šŸ˜“ looks like got to start Sci immediately.

I think don't frighten parents here... No kid got kick out as far as we know. you get appointment with principal , even kids got that, its not about kicking anyone out..

If your kid can make it, don't be afraid to try this gep route...
Children who have attended preparation class either from Mindstretcher, TLL or Morris Allen, to pass GEP tests, may have to compete with those naturally gifted without the need to attend prep class to get into GEP and to be able to cope inside GEP.

There is another group of children called the \"Tikam\" correct group. The children just need to make all the right guesses for MCQ for GEP Selection tests. There is a case of one parent whose child is of moderate ability and managed to get into GEP. The child could not cope and has to leave. Stressed up the child so much till too much harm is done. Another parent whose children did not pass any GEP tests, has children who get scholarships to study. See, this is life.

A gep teacher told me that a handful of kids are not suited for gep. They are always the last few in class. Can't imagine how demoralizing it is for the kids and parents. If dc get selected, I would say grab the opportunity. But it does not mean that it will provide easy access to top schools via dsa. My ds class alone has quite a few boys with no CO and WL.

                phtthp:
If a child been offered Gep, and after trying out P4 Gep for one year: if the child find Gep curriculum stressful, can't cope or not suitable & much prefer to come back to Mainstream, is perfectly all right.

Hi, I'd like to share my experiences... The GEP program is ultimately an amalgam of collaborative efforts - school, child & most pivotally parents. Every so often, there r children who return to Mainstream, but u DO NOT just opt out (there is NO option to opt out), a lot of family counselling goes into e process to help e child adjust before an eventual decision (supported by a psychiatric report perhaps) is made to return to Mainstream. The children selected r certainly High Ability learners, it could be a lack of family support (example, single parent) resulting in their inability to cope w e stress of a quick academic pace.

I believe tt e last few in a GEP class r last simply bcos, well, someone has to be last in any form of ordering. They could be obstinate & refuse to follow e GEP curriculum per se, for instance. I sat w a GEP boy (very avid reader, book never leaves his hands, but he refused to complete any assignment he did not fancy. His parents seemed too busy to manage his schoolwork as well.) right before his DSA interview last year, just to give e interviewees a confidence boost. I advised him not to strain his system eating all the roti prata w curry 15 min before his DSA interview. He didn't take it to heart & gobbled all the food down. šŸ˜› The last few in class, if they do not meet baselines, possibly just take time to mature & blossom.

I m not aware of any test leh šŸ˜“[/quote]My child managed to obtain a very high score this time for Science. Patience does pay off. She finally gets the marks that matches the amount of effort put in. She finally gets what the questions are asking her and could apply the correct knowledge at the right question. :rahrah: :xedfingers: Keeping my fingers crossed that she maintains her standard.

P3 Science will still be tested in P4 and upwards so it is important to understand the concepts well and do well. If not, it wastes time to re-learn P3 Science in P4 when there are even more things to learn such as Math, Chinese, English...

I do not know the family situations of those kids who are not doing well academically, but according to ds and dd, there is always one or two kids with certain temperament in gep. Kudos to the teachers. Many have the patience of a saint.
