Dunman High School (Junior High)

Thanks zbear.
We considered that too but felt that she is too young to stay out. Maybe when she is in year 3 and 4
Cheers ! -
Sorry. Noob question. Is there anywhere one can find out the no of places allocated for each kind of DSA by DHS? Trying to get a feel of how competitive to try the DSA route…for example, if there are only 3 places allocated for DSA thru Chinese Orchestra or Guzheng, it will be extremely tough unless really outstanding? May be better to focus on other aspects then? Also, if one enters through DSA Performing Arts - let’s say Guzheng, does it mean that that student will have to be committed to a CCA which requires this skill set for the next 6 years in DHS? Confused.
Also, it seems less common or popular for pple to try DSA thru Uniformed Group as this is hardly discussed? I thought it may be an easier way since time commitment for Uniformed Groups in Pri Sch is less? No?
Thanks in advance. -
this year (2016), or last year (2015) :
how many P6 students offered CO (guzheng) ?
after accept CO (guzheng) -
in Secondary 1 to 4 (commitment over next 4 years, not 6 years, after signing on dotted line), every week, how often compulsory need to attend Cca guzheng practice ?
is it twice or 3x per week (each session : duration 2 hrs) ?
at Dunman High -
if accept CO, via Sports Cca / Arts Performance Cca :
the commitment level is applicable only for 4 years, not 6 years, unlike Nanyang Girls High / RGS Secondary, which means signing up for full 6 years commitment, all the way in IP programme, until "A" level. -

No. Class 3L is actually not the best, but people recognise it as the best as it is the last class alphabetically. In Year 2016, Is the Class 3L the best? What are the subjects combiinations for the top Students?
Please advise
They tend to have a smaller class and have better results but, the other classes are actually equally good.
Class 3L is simply a class which takes triple science and Geog/Hist I believe.
There are options for taking a combination of Double sciences (Chemistry + Physics/Biology) and Double humanities (Two from Geography/History/English Literature/Chinese Literature). Those classes are not any worse, they just decided that they want to take those subjects for Y3 and Y4. There are a lot of the so-called \"cream of crop\" students there too ((should be classes E and F))
No class is \"the best\", all classes have students that are good at certain subjects. -
Hi Parents
Do you ever face any BGR’s problem for your child/children? Do the school and teachers do anything about it? I noticed so far the forum never talk about this topic.
My DD has CO for DHS and Cedar? Still have not decided which school to put as 1st choice.
Please advise. Thank you -

Congrats on getting 2 COs. Both schools are very good (I assume her CO for Cedar is IP) n it will be difficult to make a selection.
How does your DD feel? Which school does she feel comfortable? She has to be the one to make a decision becos she is the one who is going to study for the next 6 years.
Do consider location n the logistics as she will spend long hours in school. Does she like co-ed or same gender schools? What about CCA ? (CCA plays a big part in Sec School). Also school culture needs to be taken into consideration. DHS school culture is very different from Cedar.
If you are able to list down your answers, you will get a clearer pix of which school is more suitable.
Good luck!!! -

Thanks zbear, glad to receive your reply.
Yes, all those you have mentioned. We did considered.
We are wondering how DHS's teachers handle the BGR's problem. Or they just closed one eye?? I think all the parents know, at this age, all the kids growing, not only the age, thinking also. Anything can happen. Nowadays, all the schools like to have this bonding period among the classmates. That's the most worried part.
Can any parents, ex-student or present student share your experience? Thank you in advance. -

I was told teachers in DHS have made it clear to students that BGR is strictly prohibited.. Though I suppose they also can't control what the students do outside the school.. And if I were to choose between 2 schools, one happens to be a single-sex and the other a co-ed school, (the risk of) BGR would not be an issue, particularly if both are IP schools since, once the child enters year 5, he/she would still be mixing with members of opposite sex and so, still chances for him/her to get involved in BGR.

I have a friend, son is studying in a top boy's IP school. He's been scoring straight As from year 1 to year 4, then, after going to its IP JC, got (too) involved with a girl from his class, and ended up doing badly in his promo exam.
Having said that, during my time, I also had classmates going together in JC, and still doing very well in 'A' level. -

Yes, I understand that outside the school is really out of their control. For us, we think that secondary is still too young to have the BGR.
Headache! -

I do agree with mum_sugoku.
Sec School is indeed too young to start BGR n I don't encourage it. However, I deliberately put my kids in co-ed schools since Primary School in order for them to have more exposure n gain confidence n maturity to handle interpersonal relationships of both genders.
It's important for parents to inculcate right values especially for teenagers. You can't avoid the time when they start to interact with the opposite gender so if they start on the right foot, I think BGR will not be a big issue.
Also knowing your child's character will also give you an idea whether BGR will be a headache.
BTW, BGR shld be the lowest priority in making a selection. It may or may not happen so why worry n think so much ahead?
Good luck in your decision!
