Does CHIJ TP have a affiliated COP for NA?
i put her affiliated school as 1st choice and she met the minimum criteria for NA.
sorry what is AFAIK?
I thought as long as you have a COP got enough for NA or Express, you will be posted to the respective course if you put the school as 1st choice. ..no? -
With a score of 263, is it wise to put Anderson Secondary as 1st choice instead of RI or HCI? We are residing at Yishun. Please advise.

Well... it's really up to your child's fit & whether proximity to home is really huge on the priority.
With 263 score, he / she can go to any school he/ she fancy. It depends on the character of the child to determine if he/she can benefit from the school ultimately.
One thing for sure, those with slightly lower score & looking at these 2 schools will be very glad to have one less competition.

RI is at bishan, about 4 mrt stations away only, should be able to reach within 30 to 40 mins. Not that far actually...... -

With 263 he should have gotten the EESIS ($2400 off schools fees in independent schools) as well ? Can consider other IP independent school like SJI too.
Travel time should be around 30 mins, 20 mins MRT from Yishun to Toa Payoh followed by 3 bus stops (10 mins) journey to SJI at Malcolm Road.
If the school is still at Bishan then it would be similar to RI in terms of travelling time. 15 mins via MRT and 5 mins walk to the school. -

You can take NS line from Yishun to Bishan right? Anderson is at AMK, RI's only 1 stop more!
Pls put #1 RI. If HCI/NJC/DHS are too far, put #2 CHS. Up the game! -
Zlia:
Hi ZliaHi all,
My son got 209 for his PSLE and we are considering Outram, Kent Ridge and New Town.
We like Outram because they are strong in sports and he's interested in Rock Climbing and when my hubby and son went to the open house, they see that the students were very passionate (though I think that the students selected or who volunteered to assist in the open houses are always the passionate ones) and said they spend quite a number of days training weekly so we thought then there is a less chance of our son spending most of his time loitering around or playing too much computer games. However, I can't seem to find any O Level performance online for this school and they missed asking about this during the open house.
His tutor recommended Kent Ridge as she said her students from Kent Ridge were very motivated and they love their teachers and their school. We went to the open house and thought it was ok. However, they don't seem to have strong sports CCAs and my son is not really keen in the CCAs available there. The school's O Level performance seems good when I saw the figures and their cut off point to Sec 1 seems to have increased over the years so I think it could have been more popular?
Another school we are considering is New Town. His tutor said it used to be an Ah Beng school but now it's better. Another tutor friend said the standard of the papers there is quite high and the kids there who he taught were have good attitude and speak fondly of the school. I read online that they have a new principal this year who used to be a school leader in Anglican, so am wondering if it could be a plus point. I can't find any recent O Level performance online for this school.
We are actually quite confused now. Not sure if we are looking for too much - OK O Level performance, good sports CCA that interests my son (he's interested in rock climbing, basketball, floorball, tchoukball), less ah bengs, not too far from home or closer to his twin sister (I will go to her later). We stay in Tiong Bahru, but have seen many rowdy Queenstown and Bukit Merah students.
For his twin sister, she got 244+2. We are considering the below schools for her:
1. Nan Hua
2. Crescent
3. Fairfield
4. St Margarets
5. St Theresa
6. Gan Eng Seng
For her, we were thinking if we should have NH or Crescent as the first choice. Well, it's quite scary though cos she is so close to the cut off points. We went to both open houses. She's very much like the Nan Hua girls we saw in the school, prim and proper, soft spoken. The girls in Crescent, on the other hand, were different. They were more vocal, enthusiastic (they were encouraging her to try out all the CCAs in their booths), and the girls looked like they were enjoying both the company of their friends and talking to the p6 students. We could hear lots of hearty laughter and my girl enjoyed herself. I honestly hope my girl can be more vocal and adventurous cos I think this is necessary as she steps into working life in future.
And so, we are really quite confused now. We didn't manage to go to as many open houses (maybe that would hv made us even more confused. Haha!) as we wanted to cos we had to cater to both the twins.
Please do let me know if you have any views on the schools mentioned above or any suggestions if you think there are other schools that we should consider.
I recall it was quite 'standard' when I chose my secondary school in the past - based on result and distance from home fullstop. Don't know if I'm thinking too much now. Haha.
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for posting and sharing your considerations and situations. There aren't many multiple parents so far. There must be parents like me who are reading and appreciate them.
May I ask, what would be the reason it will be good that the twins' schools be closer?
My twins are still in primary school, not P6 yet. But I went to Nan Hua open house last Sat and agree what you have described about the school. Had a good impression of the students. We arrived late and so no much encounter with their teachers though. How is your impression of the teachers and the teacher-students interactions? I have previous experience of CGS and some idea of what to expect. There are pros and cons of girls school too.
It all boils down to the characters of your DD. She has 244+2 I assume that she has higher chinese and hence she is more inclined to it? Is her primary school is similar to Nan Hua? My DD told me she doesn't want to go girls school because she wants to be in the same school as her twin brother. She could not appreciate that they may not be in the same school eventually.
I don't have much knowledge about the options for your DS. in fact, it is good now that i am more aware of different options around.
One consideration I would have, the distance from home for boys especially. I know of cases where boys who had to travel long distance from school ended up going out frequently with the wrong group of friends. But if your DS is not the going out kind, it may not be a concern.
Based on distance from Tiong Bahru, it seems that CGS and Outram make more sense. Has your DD calculated the difference in travel time from each school?
Wonder what will be your final decision and considerations in the end and how they do in their new schools.
Cheers -

Not to mention, Anderson isn't near the MRT station whereas RI / CHS is within walking distance of the station (slightly long walk but shouldn't be a problem for boysHappy75:
