Possible. See their footnote:
- The grade profiles do not take into account offers that were made under Discretionary Admissions.
- The courses marked with an asterisk (*) are those where additional assessments such as interviews, selection tests, and portfolios are required.
Your friend daughter probably did well in her interview and had that something extra that they were looking for (a couple of my former student leaders were admitted into Law with less than a perfect 4 as well). -
Nephew visited RIJC OH last Friday and was impressed by the school’s culture, curriculum and facilities. His L1R5 is 4 (RI cop was 3 last year).
If nephew puts RI as 1st choice and HCI as 2nd choice (HCI cop was 4 last year), will he be at a disadvantaged position, compared to students who also scored 4 points but put HCI as 1st choice ?
I’ve read that allocation of JCs is by merit. However, for applicants with the same L1R5, will the sequence of their ‘choices’ of schools determine allocation ? Or will MOE rank students by decimal points, like S1 Posting ?
Deadline for submission is 16 Jan (Mon) 3pm. Appreciate some advice on this. Thank you very much… -

Yes she was quite active especially in being a member of the students council. Probably the criteria of selection includes that.isetan:

your friend's daughter could have presented herself well. Singapore also needs more locals to enter medicine. all the best to the girl. -

Basically choice does not matter in the posting by MOE but it may matter when you try to appeal to the JC if you did not get posted to it. Example your nephew may not even get posted to HCI coz their COP is partial 4. Not all the 4 pointers would get in. So they may give priority to those who choose them as first choice ? If he is 8-4=4 then chance would be even slimmer for HCI posting if HCI COP remains as 4 points. Provided of course he did not even get RI in the first place if RI remains at 3.Nephew visited RIJC OH last Friday and was impressed by the school's culture, curriculum and facilities. The JAE booklet pg 11 did explain the MOE posting procedure
https://www.moe.gov.sg/docs/default-source/document/education/admissions/jae/files/2017-jae-information-booklet.pdf
Also covered in the FAQ
http://www.ifaq.gov.sg/MOE/apps/fcd_faqmain.aspx#FAQ_55597
In situations where there are two or more applicants with the same net aggregate score vying for the last place in a course, they will be posted based on their citizenship status (i.e. Singapore Citizens, then Singapore Permanent Residents, then International Students). If there is still a tie, say between two Singapore Citizens, the one with the better gross aggregate score will be posted to the course first. If there is still a tie between two citizens with the same gross aggregate scores, then posting to the course will be determined by a computerised ballot where each candidate is given an equal opportunity. -

Just realize NUS and NTU do publish the indicative grade profile for both A level and Poly online. You can refer to the http://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/gradeprofile/sprogramme-igp.html. Most require high 3s but Law and Med require a perfect 4 (as highlighted by the news article also).[/quote]Yes, the 3 Local Unis published their IGP for both A level and Poly pupils...
They do reveal for specific courses but not widely available to the general public. The polytechnics would be able to advise. Some info gathered from reporters last year (http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/education/more-poly-grads-in-top-degree-courses-herefloppy:

Yes, general statistics, i know,..But what abt for specified courses/ faculties ? Any idea do they reveal as well ?
Btw, Make it to local Uni...is not equivalent to make it to \" desired course\" ... Some juz have to make do with any courses which their CGPA permits...( of coz, same goes for A levels students, not only Poly students)
- Law and Med require near perfect GPA 4.0 to qualify (A level requires near perfect A).
- Poly students make up around 2% of Law and Med cohort (7 students each).
- 40 poly students admitted into architecture (not sure about the size of the intake).
- 253 poly students admitted into accountancy (not sure about the size of the faculties).
I guess the courses not mentioned (business, arts and social science, science, engineering, etc) would probably see more poly grads as they are fairly generic and accept almost all comers.
It is more likely for the poly grads to be aligned with their desired course than A levels, given the limitation / specialization / eligible criterias of their diplomas. The A level student has a wider selection and is more likely to just make any selection when their desired option is not available.
Historical figures are even available for the past recent years...( saw it some where, tabulated by someone)...
Yes, at least CGPA of 3.5/6 n above, (under normal applications, exclude DA) NOT juz > 3.0...
That was WHY i highlighted in my previous posting that ...
If Poly pupils were to choose a popular / competitive course, needs to score HIGH CGPA...Successful applicants for such courses, all had CGPA of near 3.9 ...Augmum:
If u are talking abt Popular courses in Local Unis...as what i observe from my gal's current batch...Not too many successful applicants are from Poly...i heard that those who were successful ... All of them had achieved HIGH CGPA of near 3.9...n were fr similar Poly courses...thus, very stiff competition for Poly kids too...
But if u talking abt courses like Arts n Social Sciences or Engineering ...(those faculties which can take in much bigger cohort)...Yes, more vacancies are avail for Poly kids n of coz lower GPA COP .... -
after o level results, another 2 weeks wait for posting results…then it will be the start of a new journey.
hopefully son will mature during this period and is clear about what course he wants to take in U after his A levels…but it will have to wait till after his NS. -
Anyone here knows when the o levels cert will be ready for collection from school?

Janet, no rush. My DS till now doesn't know what he wants to do after A levels n NS.
Boys generally take a longer time to mature n make decisions.
