mum2girls:
Do you know the percentage of the NA students eligible for Polytechnic after their O level?
Hi mum2girls,
Sorry for late reply.
Sec 5 NA: Eligibility to Poly
2015 O-levels -- 78.6%
2016 O-levels -- 62.1% -
Looks like students performed poorly in 2016. Hope it’s not a downward trend. May want to send my girl there in future, depending on her results.

I'm an ex student from SJC and my experience in the school was the best. It's the best school in my schooling life, and although it may not be one of the best schools in singapore academically, the environment in school was really good. Teachers were like mothers/fathers to us who were extremely caring and dedicated to the well being of us. Although i've graduated for awhile and pursuing my degree now, i often think back about my caring teachers and my school life in sjc. And inevitably, we have our fair share of students who misbehave, but i guess that's present in every school. But i think the bulk of the girls are well behaved and will be motivated to study and work hard when it comes to exams:) we also have plenty of leadership programmes and enrichment programmes that contribute to our school life:)
To be honest, academically, the school isnt too bad as well. I belong to the batch before the change in principal and my batch had high value added results for o levels. I was from the first class and most of my classmates had L1R5 of 9 and below, before bonus points. I remember my friends from other classes did pretty well too, good scores which is better than expected based on our PSLE scores. Theres also a fair bit of us pursuing our degrees now in the different universities of singapore (i've friends in NUS, NTU, SMU, SIM and SIT pursuing a variety of degrees from business, to arts and social sciences, to pharmacy, to nursing, to engineering, to IT). I definitely think that the school environment is much more important than the academic results produced, so given a choice, i'd choose SJC again and again. Anyway, i believe that our results are an outcome of our own determination to achieve the targets we set for ourselves:) I've no regrets entering the school and i think that every school has their good and bad side of things. If sjc offers what your kid would be interested in, i think the school deserves a chance

Thanks a lot for invaluable input about your experience in SJC. It’s useful for me to help make a decision for my daughter.

Dear all,
I wish to enroll my child in this school as its the only Girls school near my place but based on my Girl’s prelim score (EL:75, CL: 80, Math: 63, Sci: 58.5), I figured she should get around 210-218(max) for her psle, won’t be eligible for Express Stream. If I choose this school, she will auto be channel to NA stream? A bit wasted for the excess marks. Hence was hoping to get some opinion and advice. Thanks a lot! -
I wanna know:
The cut-off-point for non-affiliates to get into the Express stream is around 231, so if she really gets 210-218, she cannot take Express stream in SJC. I don’t know if she will be channeled into N(A) stream automatically. Yes it is a bit wasted for the excess marks.Dear all,

You should allow her to enter Express course at another school. Have a look at the list of schools here that have cut-off-point 218 and below. These are the ones you can consider. Shortlist a few near your house & try to attend their Open House if possible, so that she can get a feel of whether the school culture is ok for her. Unfortunately none are all-girls schools.

zac's mum:
Agree. Your daughter may not be able to choose NA if she doesn't qualify for it. Maybe other informed forumners can help with this?

I think the closest all girls school with COP nearest to your estimate for your daughter will be St Anthony's Canossian in Bedok and Katong Convent in East Coast area. Their COP is just a bit more than your estimate, so you can use this to encourage your daughter to work a bit more. I'm sure she can do it!
