F maths isn't available for his cohort. Anyway, most of the mathsy sciencey people he knows are reluctant to do F maths because they will hv to give up one of the H2 sciences. They would prefer to do H2 math, chem, bio/physics and a compulsory humanities plus a H3 math/science.

I do wonder about the combi with double math, one sci and one humanities. Sounds like an engineering combi. I think a double sci plus math rather than a double math plus sci would be more versatile and useful.

My ds is in such dilemma. He has wanted to do double maths initially but now he thinks that he likes chemistry too. The initial thought was if he takes subjects that he can handle better, he has more time to enjoy his cca and Jc life. But it is really up to him, will see what is his final decision.

Congrats slmkhoo. You've proven to us that adopting a measured and differentiated approach to cater to each child's individual strengths will bear fruits in the long run.

Really not considering gg straight to uni?

Ya I find a bit sayang hor

Thanks, everyone! We are truly ecstatic!
We talked about uni vs poly last night, and we still advise her to go to poly. Just because she can get into a uni course doesn't mean that it's the best thing for her right now, I feel. And the ones she can get into may not be the ones that suit her interests, anyway. She is still relatively immature compared to the 19yo girls who will be her cohort, and this immaturity will affect her social life, adaptability and studies, especially as she's in humanities. We had to support her a great deal to cope with A levels, and we think the 3 yrs in poly will give her some useful growing up time as well as more social skills training! Uni is still an option for the future, after her diploma, or even after working for a while, and by then, we hope she will be able to enjoy it more and derive more benefit from it. I told her that uni can be a very enjoyable experience, but not if you're struggling to keep up academically and socially. Going now when she's not ready will be a waste, I feel. That's my thinking, anyway, and she's going to go with our advice.

Thanks for the good wishes. My daughter got 2 B's and a D for her 3 H2s, and B for GP, which is better than anything she's achieved before. We're thrilled! Hope SP will be too.

:congrats: to slmkhoo on your DD1's achievements.

Cheers to another round (with DD2) next year !! :celebrate:

Thanks! I don't think I will be anything as anxious with the 2nd one. Especially now that I've seen RI's results.

Congratulations to everyone whose child received good grades yesterday! As parents I think the most important thing is that regardless of how well or poorly our child has done, we should still be proud and reward and encourage them for the effort and work they put in and the time they have sacrificed.

That said while I am proud of my daughter's results, I'm a bit worried about her uni application because compared to previous years, her results have fallen short of the NUS business criteria. And since right now we can't change her grades (she can't retake her H1 since she doesn't have NS), we are looking at the application process..

My question is what's the application process like and also the interview for NUS business or other courses? And also more specifically how important is the personal statements for the uni applications?

              Thank you!

              Randy :thankyou:

Yes, it will be good if your DS maximises his choice! All the best

I’ve noticed DHS has been rather quiet this year. There’s no update of 2016 A Level results on the school website (its still showing 2015 results). DHS forum @ KSP is also very quiet after the release of A Level results (unlike past years).

DHS has always been in close ‘fight’ with NJC for 4th place, hence the school has always been very prompt in reporting her A Level results. Or so I thot…

                      FF,
DHS 2016 A level batch had done better than the previous year...
I do not have the statistics with me ( since my gal alrdy grad from the sch) but feedback from junior ... overall % of distinctions improved in individual H2 subjs...with H2 Geog being the most Impressive...91%

I also wonder why they havent update the sch website...Let's wait for more info to be uploaded...

Pretty sure DHS is past 4th place with this year’s results. If it’s anything, it’s 3rd.
