      hi,

I understand that the whole cohort of NYJC is around 1800, so presumably 900 for each level. Could someone enlighten me how many places can be offered through DSA out of the 900? Does MOE impose a limit (%tage) like secondary schools?

      Thank you.

        KTKS:
        Crester:

Nyjc has posted photos of their Top Honours students is 1 way of its fantastic A Level performance.

Is this a graduating cohort photo or a misleading honour roll awardees photo?

        https://s10.postimg.org/mf5dnu1eh/grad1.png\">
        MyMelborne:
I think your initial thought is right, ilovelaksa.
There's definitely a mistake in the facebook! πŸ˜‚
Ever see Honour Roll awardees carrying haversacks and slingbags up the stage to receive their awards?
Without any student milling around the supposedly busy hall, it suggests that the entire graduating cohort are Honour Roll awardees. How is that possible? :?
Or what is the standard of Honour Roll that 100% of the students can achieve?
In NYJC website, the caption of the photo is simply 'Congratulations to class of 15/16'.
But facebook caption refers them as 'honour roll awardees'.
Crester, I give you the honour to investigate & clarify our doubts.

I am not joining in this war of debate but rather to bring justice to the students in the photo.

The photo in the FB and school website is indeed ALL students that are in the HONOURS ROLL (students scoring 3As to 7As). A total of about 260 students score at least 3 distinctions in 3 H2 and a pass in GP. It is NOT the 2016 cohort photo for the school. How can a cohort of about 750 J2 students be housed on the small stage ??

Why the students bring their bags along ? Because they gathered in the Hall and run up the stage to hand-shake with the 2 principals (ex and current) then after they will go out of the Hall to collect their result slips. Do you think the kids will remember to remove their bags, caps before dashing up the stage ? They are all jumping with joy already...

Next question to pop up with be \"How do you know this ? What proof do you have ?\"
Answer is : I was in the Hall when they announced the results.

Well, you can choose not to believe this if you still doubt in NYJC performance, so be it.

        Have a nice day. πŸ˜„

          jetsetter:
Btw, why should NYJC even compare itself with IPJCs? IPJCs consist of the top10% of PSLE students, but NYJC only takes in the rest of the O level track students with 6/7 points (not to mention some might have come in after the deduction of \"L1R5 bonus points\" for CLEP, affiliation and HMT).

With this sort of limitation, it is perfectly understandable NYJC can never hit 50-60% AAA/A, unlike IPJCs.

          .
I think this comparison was started by minday who claimed that NYJC result is better than some of the IPJC.

                Oh... different types of model.

To me, ALL jcs are good. I am hearg from my ds' platoon mates, so many exceptional results from so many diff JCs.
If one works hard, he/he can score in any JCs/institute.

Why should I risk exposing my privacy in FB for a mistake (intentional or unintentional) made by NY (official)? It's the defender's job to clarify. I am not sure if they will clarify my doubts anyway.
You are the one who wants to find out whether it is a mistake, so are you not the source of the question? I believe if you control your tone and ask questions in a more pleasing manner, NY (Official) will be more than happy to respond to you.

In any case, what I feel matter most is how much the school value adds its students and if MOE did not scrap its policy to present awards to JCs which value add, we will get to see how well a school can mould the next generation

Another channel is for NY to show more statistics but somehow it is more secretive than other JCs in the same league of COP.

More secretive than other JCs? Most JCs did not even release detailed statistics apart from a few statements such as \"improvement\". In fact, they were vague in the release of results, and that include NYJC, along side with SAJC, TJC, ACJC, NJC, MJC, SRJC, TPJC etc. What does this show? If that's the case, how will you interpret ACJC's A level performance? To me, congratulating all the A level graduates will be the most warm gesture.
