DH has colleagues taking ONE YEAR no pay leave to assist child in PSLE.

After one year, one colleague claimed that the child did improve.

Me: You can estimate that colleague’s pay loss for that year?
      DH : $200K pa?
Me: Huh? Is it worth it to forgo $200K for PSLE?
DH: Do you weigh your child’s future in dollars and cents?

Strange thing was, Came across one P6 parent (back then), who did.

She quit her job in June, as a doctor in hospital when her daughter in P5, studying in a Methodist Girls’ primary school. She supervised her daughter starting P5 Term 3 until psle over, then went back to work. She took 1.5 years no pay leave. She said worth it, because her girl did well enough, got into a Reknown (IP) all Girls’ Secondary school.

So it is not uncommon for parents to take 1-1.5years of no pay leave prior PSLE.

The anxiety seep in P5, preparing for crucial P5 (sa1 + SA2) , all the way till psle. For kids who intend to dsa, they need to do well in P5, p6 sa1.

Some parents will take leave from P5 Term 1, while others do so later, 2nd half of the year.

But I heard of mum who quit their jobs so as to revise with the kids...but the kids got no time to revise with the mum...

Those mums missed the boat. Why quit when the child is in P6? These mums should have stayed at home with the children during the lower primary years to build up a firm foundation with the child. At P5 or P6 level, the poor child has piles of school homework to complete on top of supplementary classes.

                bestwishes:
For wrong spelling of key words, will any mark (half mark or 1m) deducted, according to new PSLE sc marking scheme?

Based on what I know, the answer is No deduction of marks for wrong spelling of keyword for PSLE Science if the answer and explanation is correct. Lower block primary 3 or 4 will deduct marks for wrong spelling of key words. Best person to check with is your child's school Science HOD.

Sometimes kids are ok…nothing wrong with foundation. …just under performing during exams.

For such cases, it is more important to have a strategy and revision plan to get in tune with the psle styled questions n marking scheme. No need full time intense revision coz kids will be bored doing simple qns.

At least these mums are trying to help their kids improve in some way or another, even at the last minute. :salute: It's still better than just sending the kids to enrichment centers. When you make time and be around for them, it will certainly give your child some boost. But remember not to over-monitor or over-nag them, then you will add even more stress.

my girl’s school’s P6 CCA stop at term1 and P6 supp classes stop in mid term2.

though 5days can come back earlier, still have a lot of homework to clear everyday.
sometime i wondered is it really a lot of homework, or they do slowly cos after school, feel tired.
anyone can share their weekly revision schedule ? TIA

                      my plans
after SA1 to Prelim -> cheong and revise
from Prelim to PSLE (3 weeks) -> has to slow down, do the basic revision.
