      jetsetter:
Never say after merger, got downsize or not. If there's downsizing, intake will drop...

More O level grads to be channelled to polytechnics is it huh? Just a shift of the bell curve, your B3 becomes B4.
Says no teachers or staff will be retrenched. I assume cohort size will also increase slightly (?).

I think more O level grads (and better quality ones) moving towards polytechnics (mainly by choice) have been happening for a number of years already. The COP of the polytechnic courses have been dropping gradually and the number of courses offered by our polytechnics have also increased.

OK it says due to fall in cohort sizes, meaning those merged jcs were undersubscribed in recent years...Hope they have a happy marriage!

            Don't really understand MOE's move.......... :?

If the reason was truthfully all about \"falling enrollment\", then why start another new JC (i.e. Eunoia) if there are not enough students? Surely they had done their homework earlier????

But I have to say it was clever of MOE to put a stop to \"appeals\" and then turnaround and put the blame on \"falling enrollments\".

I assume that they are really serious about cutting down the number of students going on to universities.
Unless they are going to force the universities (besides SIT) to open up more spaces for poly graduates - which would definitely be good news indeed.

MOE's target is for 40% cohort participation rate in unversities by 2020. So I don't think the move is to restrict the no. going to university. But I think the trend is for more students to go to poly, even those who are eligible to go to JC.

The new JC was promised to the 3 IP schools when they first started some years back, and I don't think they could have asked them to change plans and \"take over\" an existing JC.

EJC is an IPJC. Those who merge, none is an IPJC :scratchhead:

thought shd be take effect from 2018, as the 4 JCs will not take in J1 students next year.

Think last batch of GCE A level students from those merged JC should be 2018 A level batch (born in Year 2000, dragon )
