8 Junior Colleges are Merging? Rumors or Reality?

floppy:
In the gov.sg FAQ somewhere...read it, buy it or leave it.Imp75:
actually is it very wrong to suggest EJC to occupy the IJC current campus? Save cost mah.....IJC is very new and huge and nice too....
No. This is actually a valid point as raised by some others also. Why spent millions when there will be 4 campuses readily available.
Case of poor timing if you asked me. -
floppy:
They didn't engage any stakeholders this time. Like corporate mergers, it was swift.
This one not quite the same lah... The IP was still at the proposal stage. Hence, OVA still got chance to raise voice and make noise. Besides, VJC proposal was really stupid to begin with.jetsetter:
...
Take a leaf from the very brave OVA? :salute:

Good luck!
On the other hand, the merger is signed, stamped, endorsed and confirmed. Scope for negotiation is limited. If not them, another JC will get the axe. Better choose those JCs (Gov) that are easy meat compared to those with strong stakeholders (Gov aided).
Moral of the story: choose a school with strong backing or powerful stakeholders (gov aided) for your kids if these are the concerns.
Looks like no words can console those affected kids and parents.
But can't parents, students and alumni have a say in the rebranding exercise? -

Err like Andergoon, Innoshun, Meripenis?

Better leave it to the powers to come up with names like you-know-ah. More tok kong lah. -

watching for comic-relief lah. This wifey character is really one-of-a kind. Din know that such blinkered character exists in real life until you encounter them in kiasuparent forum
Of course not.stetan:
Jetty , your kids in EJC? This is so hilarious :rotflmao:
This reminds me of the 9pm drama now showing on Ch 8 where the wife (Paige) kept insisting that the husband (Thomas Ong) say \"sorry\" for most inconsequential stuff.
You watch Ch 8?!
She can demand till cows come home, or till her private pool at her backyard dries up.
i cannot quiz about their inertia and radio silence meh?
If my alma mater is merged or shut down, I will certainly jump and write in to Minister to protest.
i remember a small mall in Potong Pasir marketed itself as St Andrew's Mall. SASA immediately protested and demanded the developer to re-register a name.
That's the diff between proactive and passive alumni. I doubt after griping here and there, they will engage MOE. You need absolute unity for this sort of thing. -

Did you just spout a foul word ?

Seragoon jc should just merge with Rjc and naned it SRJC - Serangoon Raffles JC -

RGS?Imp75:

Well, IJC parents may jump! No...methinks YJC should vacate and occupy IJC's beautiful premises but MOE says the older YJC is geographically more accessible.
It's too late. Did you see EJC hoarding was already up and piling had commenced since last year? The architect was commissioned, blueprint and budget approved donkey years ago, only to be delayed by construction of MRT tracks and soil conditions in 2015.
It was before Min Ng took office and decided to abandon so many campuses. Too late...too late...
Can some MP ask him in the next sitting what those vacant campuses are going to be used for?
Or they could move some of the branded schools in crowded d10 and distribute them among the 4 campus. This will free up prime land for cor lucrative purposes -
Too late
RGS New campus, is under construction now at Braddell, having been demolished, ready by end of 2019

As the detractors will say, its never too late. And they will complain why you close down so many sec schools and yet build a new campus for RGS. Just so ironic.Too late

This is OT: when I raised this issue, I was also wondering: at the moment, govt has projected a 6.9m population by 2030, and started building infrastructure/housings in preparation for it. What if, the anticipated migrants didn't come subsequently? What are they gonna do with the surplus housings they've built? What's their contingency plan?
i'm curious what the govt will do with all the flats built. There will be 2 plots of land in TPY makeover...beside Caldecott CC and TPY East. If new and existing SCs are not reproducing enough, won't there be wastage?
