My ds is doing MEP at NJC. There is a theory & aural test. The aural test is v difficult - not like the usual. And the child has to perform a piece just for the teacher to guage.

The class size per year is very small. I think most got thru the selection tests (like 12 out of 15), but there was natural attrition. By the start of Term 2, only 8 were left for this year's JH1s (sec 1s). There should be no more drop-outs until end of jH2(sec 2) unless they are not coping and the teachers would \"kick them out\" (rare lah). Most would continue until year 4 at least before deciding whether they want to offer it as an A-level subject.

My ds is enjoying Mep. He also joined a music cca altho it's not compulsory (hv to audition for this). If your child is playing piano, NJC has a unique group - the piano ensemble. My son just performed with the orchestra and the piano ensemble at esplanade last night (part of CCA, not MEP).

Oh, and here's more info for you to look through. nJC MEP: http://www.njc.edu.sg/education_music.htm

A silly write-up by one batch of MEP students:

My boy came back saying squash got too many participants, so the teacher has transferred him to his 3rd choice. Phew. No need to travel to dunnowhere and come home late liao.

I wonder if CAFE is \"marked\". My boy has had to miss a couple of the sessions of CAFE cca in term 1, and his cafe cca this term, he's starting today, but has to miss friday's bc of his cca rehearsal. Even today's session clashes with his regular cca.

Yes, IP SAP schools like HCI, DHS, RVHS, NYGH and non-IP schools like St Nics, Anglican High, Catholic High, Maris Stella etc are the others offering only Chinese as the mother tongue.

Does that mean that if you are taking any other MT other than chinese, you cannot get admission into the above mentioned schools?
