Hi, my ds, currently in sec1, has been offered to go to 华庆班 for acc. Though he has expressed interest, I am not sure if i shld let him do it as he is already struggling his other core subjects. Can anyone share with me what this programme entails? Thanks!

My kid has never been called up for 华庆班, so I can only share from what I know.
I gather that these boys will be asked to help organise Chinese-related activities in school as well as participate in inter-school competitions such as 华文大比拼。 Sometimes they may also attend activities from other schools or 华文会馆。
Since your child is selected, why not give it a try? He will probably enjoy it if he has a genuine interest in Chinese 😄
Since he is only in Sec 1, not to worry too much about him not coping. Just monitor his progress, Moreover, CHS has Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP) from Sec 3. By involving in these activities, he will probably have a good feel if he wants to take up the programme ( which is geared towards the study of Chinese culture ) when given the chance to do so upon obtaining good EL & CL grades at end of sec 2.

:thankyou:
It is actually called 华青班。"华族文化青年培訓班"。My DS is in this CCA. Typically the involvement is about an hour per week where more sharing of Chinese culture is conducted by the school through some outsourcing partners. E.g. Tea appreciation along with some others like calligraphy deeper Chinese history. I recalled during Ptm session, there was some mentioning about added credentials for considerations for the bilateral scholarship program in year 3. In general, if they can cope, always good to learn more.

Hi, realized we are not called to attend any parent meet teachers session. They don’t have such meeting for Sec 1 students?

End of year definitely have.
Mid-year usually no.
Even the end of year PTM is \"by invitation only\".
If not invited means teachers have no issues about DS.
So not invited is good.

Thanks Careermum. Just finding quite out of touch with what's going on in school. No PTM, no parental involvement in school activities.....

What does the student councils do in school? What is the difference between them and CMC? Does getting into student council take up a lot of time? Anyone with information to share based on your experience or your son’s experience? Thank you in advance.
