zac's mum:
That's right. What the reservation of the 40 places is to shift the competition upwards to Phase 2A. It does not reduce competition downstream in Phase 2B and 2C because those who failed in Phase 2A are likely to try again in Phase 2B and 2C.
That fact may be correct, but I don't think the reservation of the 20 places made much difference to the trend? Rationale being, more people thought their chances would be better so more people applied. So phase 2B and 2C did not really get easier to score a place. The main impact was on the earlier phases like alumni had to undergo balloting in the most popular schools.Justbear:
I believed the additional 40 places (20 places allocated to phase 2B and phase 2C respectively) extracted from the original vacancies started in year 2014.
So you probably have to observe the trend starting from year 2014.
What is more significant is really the emphasis on Singapore citizenship which started in 2014. That really shifted the balance in favour of SCs for the really popular schools. -
Checking in, annual event going to start again. Here to help if I can (see odds and chance, not choosing school for you), feel rusty though. Time to exercise brain.

Thanks Lexy! I'm sure your help will be much appreciated by newbie parents. -
ChiefKiasu:
I applaud MOE for taking this stand. Citizenship should be accorded priority in our 'world-class education system'. :rahrah:

I am still waiting to see if this will be extended to the GEP at P4-P6. IMHO, this program should be for SC kids only. I do know of quite a few PR kids who were in GEP left Singapore upon graduation.

Hi, our school office had emailed to inform us that, Phase 1, we do not need to be present unless the system has issues accepting our application due to missing information, etcetera... -
hi can i check on this SC priority…does that mean…both parents must be SC or only the main applicant (eg. only the alumni member) must be SC? thanks!

It is the *child* who must be SC. -

Nothing to do with citizenship of parents
Schools only look at the citizenship of your child, not parent.
What is the citizenship of your child ? -
sc.
