Hi,
My daughter is considering going to TKGS next year. I am doing some research.
1. How many Arts and Sci classes will there be after streaming (assuming it is done in Sec 3 like my time)?
My daughter is strong in Maths/Sci but weak with languages. We will not want a situation where she just makes it into TKGS, and come streaming, be forced into the Arts stream bec the better students chope the Sci classes.
2. TKGS offers Economics at O levels, which is rare.
Is this the same type of Economics offered in JC (as opposed to Home Economics)?
Is it available in Arts or Sci streams or both?
What are the chances of getting to study it?
Appreciate any inputs. Thanks

My girl is in Sec 3 and she does 2 langs, 2 sciences, 2 humanities and 2 maths. Majority of the girls do this combi. (considered science based?) as this should put them in good stead to enter JC. Some girls do 3 sciences but they must obtain very good scores in science and overall in sec 2. Some girls do combined science and 2 Humanities (not very sure about this combi).
For her Humanities subjects, she opted SS/elect Geography and Economics. Econs is similar to JC econs but simpler than A levels.
Unless the girl fails science/maths in sec 2, she will not be asked to do combined science. -
Thank you Mrs Cheng!

Looks to me like there is no streaming. During my time some 30 years ago, we were streamed into Arts or Science streams in Sec 3. Or Technical stream since I am a guy -
Hi,
1) May i know any girls travelling back from TKGS to Sengkang/Punggol area from the new holding site? How long is the journey and which route is the best?
2) Also, if possible anyone can share the school workload on a daily basis? Does the girls work late into the night? or have a balance of work and life?
3) Is the teachers there supportive in the girls work, like giving consultation after school hours or sufficient mentoring?
4) Besides CCA, does the school required the girls to stay back very often or return on Saturday?
Thanks!!! -

Or Technical stream since I am a guy

Now all secondary schools go by subject combination. Triple Sci usually will take 3 Sciences but you have to meet certain criteria to take this combi. There are many students who have done well in sec 2 but they rather take 2 Pure Sci, 2 Maths, 2 Humanities and 2 Languages as this route give them wider choices in a long run.
So far, it seems like there is only one class doing Combine Sci but these students still have to take 2 Maths. In general, tkgs standard is quite high and competitive. The sch pace can be quite fast and their exams date is usually quite early compared to other schs. Is best to look at the cut off median to determine if the kid is suitable for the sch as median is the cut off points where most students get. For all these years, most pupils who entered to tkgs are of 238 and above t score.
Hope this help. -
Reenie:
My girl is currently studying in tkgs. I cant ans 1) as we are not staying there. If your girl is able to manage her time well, stay focus and no other classes outside, I would say the load is still ok. My girl has other competitive sports commitment other than sch cca, so generally she has to stay up till 11 plus to complete her works. The sch standard can be quite high, competitive and pace is very fast so it also have to depend on whether the kid can keep to the pace and standard of the sch. Was told that quite a number of them stay up till morning to revise for exams. The topics covered are quite heavy actually.Hi,

The teachers are supportive and nice. My girl likes the sch alot and we are happy with the sch too.
The sch ends at 2.40pm. My girl does not stay back in sch or go back on Sat unless she has cca commitments. So far Sat is because she helps in her cca booth or sch open house. -

At 2017 Sec 4 level : heard that TKGS only open One Triple Science class.
Now all secondary schools go by subject combination. Triple Sci usually will take 3 Sciences but you have to meet certain criteria to take this combi.

As of 2017 Sec 4 level :
heard that TKGS only offer One Triple Sciences (i.e. study GCE O level Pure Physics, Chemistry, Biology) class.
(Sec 4 parents, if above is wrong, pls do correct me. Thank you).
b)
TKGS offer Econs (F & N : Food and Nutrition)
May read source of info (Moe) :-
https://www.moe.gov.sg/media/press/2005/pr20050922a.htm
One may read more about Econs, here :

c)
TKGS also offer Drama, along with other Girls Secondary Schools, like St Margaret, CHIJ Katong, CHIJ Toa Payoh, etc.
Drama is also interesting, to those who aspire to be actress, potential movie director, script-writer for plays, etc.
TKGS offer more variety, to girls. Jolly Good !
