      [quote="singhao"]Haha I still can’t see the logic. Maybe you can help.

      At 4pm today ACSJ had 5 vacancies and ACSP had 1. If you are the parent, how would you conclude at that time that ACSP has lower risk of balloting?

      And if you are a parent who is <1km for only ACSP, what is the logic behind waiting till 4.25pm to register?

      [quote="floppy"]
      Well said. I also do not understand the logic behind. By doing last minute registration, they put their own children (as all as all the other SC within 1km) to face balloting.

        There was a last minute applicant in ACSJ as well. He was loitering in the room for the last 30 mins always on his phone. When the clock showed 4.30 and one of the officer was ready to write the final numbers, he went up to the counter and told the officer he wants to register. Can hear parents sighing when he did that. One of the officer actually agreed to let him register because he has all the documents but another officer asked him which distance category he is applying for. He said something and I heard the officer telling him that balloting is for 1-2km only. Then he walked off.

          If exceed by only 1-2 applicants for that distance category, any chance the school admits all of them?

            And if twin is picked the last then all 40 will go in, right? Then they can accommodate 40 now also.

            Yes, in the very rare scenario of the Twins' ball being picked for the final space, MOE has a special rule to create an extra seat in the school. Only in such a special situation.

              No. Unless 1 person withdraws now.

                I beg to defer. I know it can be hard to accept, but they are pretty wise who after weighing their odds, decide to apply in the school. A number of forummers have been highlighting that registration isn't based on first-come-first-serve, and the high risk of balloting at both schools historically. It has also been highlighted by them that ACSJ is less likely to ballot at <1km as compared to ACSP.

                1. You don't conclude that ACSP has lower chance of balloting - You conclude that ACSP may have balloting at a risk that you find acceptable, and you prefer ACSP to whatever alternate school you had in mind, given the nearly finalized odds in balloting.

                2. The logic being (a) withdrawal from other school may take time and (b) ensuring that the nearly finalized odds is acceptable to you.

                In such registration exercise, it's really about 'me' and what 'I' find acceptable (e.g. risks, odds, etc). It's not really about what other people think and what they may have to go through (e.g. balloting).

                  What could be the alternate school in your example?

                    I am so exhausted after a day of stress and excitement. Thanks to everyone who were my ‘mental support’ during this journey. When the final results was announced I almost cried with relief. For those who are balloting next week, all the best and I believe the last one will still get in before school starts.

                      I can never understand. Why not earlier if preferred ACSP so much? Earlier there was no sign of ballot. Maybe other sensible people would have taken care of them also. Anyway, let bygones be bygones.

                        Doesn't matter. Could be Timbuktu Primary for all we care.
