Dragon babies registration year is a totally different ball game altogether. Past years trending and previous dragon babies registration year do not apply as good references as birth rates have differed and MOE's rules and regulations have changed.

Hmm, is there really that huge of a change between the two batches of dragon babies? I recall just two major changes - Singapore Citizen separate balloting from PR and 30month address rule ? Though, the 30 month rule will likely deter renters. Quite a huge amount of money needed and in some neighbourhoods can add up to be 1/2 a cheap car.

My wife and I hope to send our daughter to a popular school in phase 2B (parent volunteer), with my wife's former primary school as a back up in phase 2A. What would be the best strategy to adopt during the registration exercise? Are we allowed to apply in phase 2A, and then subsequently in phase 2B, so that we drop my wife's primary school in 2A to move to the school in 2B? How does that work, and what steps should we take?

Or are we allowed to only apply and secure a place in one phase?

You are allowed to apply for 1 school at one time, meaning if you decided to withdraw from 2A school, you would have given up the place.

Question for you is whether you will still withdraw from the 2A school if it require balloting at 2B and what is your risk threshold for balloting if that occur? say 1.5 applicants is to 1 spot? or 2 is to 1 spot? Or you want to secure a place without balloting?

Hi Lexy, thanks for sharing your thoughts, especially on the risk appetite for balloting. My wife and I will be staying within 1km of the 2B school, to give ourselves as best a chance as possible (I understand our odds will be higher in 2C too if we live within 1km). I was just unsure on the steps to take in terms of securing one school in 2A first before giving it up for another in 2B, etc, since it's my first time. So from what I've heard, the steps seem to be:

1) Apply in 2A, secure wife's school.
2) Enquire on the very last day of phase 2B at the preferred school on the numbers.
3) Based on the enquiry, if we're applying at preferred school, get wife to give up 2A place in wife's school and immediately apply for 2B place in preferred school on same day.

Could someone advise me if I got the sequence of events correct? Also, are schools generally forthcoming on the numbers applying per phase, and other stats? Like, is the info easily available? I'm asking with regards to step 2) above.

Indeed more numbers may not translate better chance. One needs to open their eyes very big and know what he/she is in for.

Cheers! :)[/quote]My case is similar like yours, but opposite in a way that i am looking at going for phase 1 popular school 1st, then phase 2C neighbourhood sch (also need balloting in certain years), because we moved house.

More anxious for next yr as we should not take dragon yr lightly.

I did hear from colleague that even doing PV has it's strategy. When u r reporting for PV, try to show your face frequently to the P, VP or heavy weights HODs, so that they know who u r. He even bought pastries & cakes for the admins in the general office. During 2B, he gotten balloted out but someone actually withdrew and he got in eventually. Was it due to the sch returning the favour? Nobody knows. As long as he gotten the place it is all that matters.

When doing PV, be flexible. Don't sign off upon completing the 40 hours. Although there is no guarantee for PV, the school will remember those PVs who are easy going, friendly and willing to lend an extra helping hand when needed. Be visible.

2. The numbers could jump last minute if many parents think likewise, so you might end up in balloting, or even missing 2B altogether and have to settle with school 2C as you won't be able to get back your seat in school 2A.
