And some will even say no Malay President.

She is the most qualified Indian to be a Malay President. She will be an awesome President.

please don't have a walkover. i want a public holiday off in lieu - so that there is a long weekend to revise for final year exam with daughter.

as for who sits there, no difference. million dollar pay, no power, first class travel, annual NDP wave.

Err. It's a Saturday, students will report to school as usual on Monday. There won't be a off in lieu or long weekend.

that one still remains to be seen..

Since Saturday is off day, MOE may give teachers off-in-lieu.. so still got chance no school unless school can function w/o teachers.

I thought the purpose of making polling day a PH is so that people can go and vote? So, why need to give off-in-lieu for those who already can go and vote on a Saturday? :scratchhead:

Because it's declared as a PH. If declared as PH than all practices wrt PH follows.

They need not declare as PH if they prefer, just declare compulsory OFF for SINGAPOREAN workers only for them to vote (like mobilization for NSmen). But if they declare PH for whatever reasons, then just enjoy the ride lor.

As long as there is a contest, it WILL be declared a public holiday.
This is stated in the Presidential Elections Act.
So all HR practices will be as if a normal public holiday fell on a Saturday, whether it's credited to your leave, following Monday off, etc.

Seems like most people here are more concerned with whether we're getting a Public Holiday than if we're getting a President Halimah.

So what's the point of always having polling days on a Saturday? Gov behind times again? 😉

because if on weekday employer will kpkb.

If on Saturday, it's up to the employer whether they wanna give off-in-lieu. It's up to their discretion. They are not bound by law or rules to give off-in-lieu, so no need to kpkb.
