A cl teacher explained it is because -买 新衣服。 if it was 1 or 2, the child’s mother would have sewn before and the first sentence would have been - 你妈妈缝了一件新衣服啊? Etc.
Apparently the kids have been taught this type of answering logic. -
When I clicked on the link that day, I saw Zaobao did an online poll and only 52% chose 3. In a relaxed state, reading the transcript yet only half of the adults chose the “right” answer. Imagine how the children would fare under exam conditions.
To me, it’s more like testing “inference” on the comprehension part than testing the listening skills of the kids. -

Did SEAB mentioned the correct ans is 3?[/quote]No, but Chinese experts from PRC I've consulted picked (3). I also picked 3 on first reading (not hearing). Don't complicate matters with all the superfluous preconditions and dramatic intonation.

Focus on the last sentence: 我不知道你妈妈还会缝制衣服呢!
B expresses surprise that A's mom knows how to sew (会缝制 - Ability here). Logically, A will address B's surprise / unawareness by informing him his mom just acquired this Ability or Skill of tailoring recently.
I feel one will intuitively blurt out a rejoinder like (3) \"刚刚开始学缝制 or a short nod \"没错,她会“ to acknowledge B's surprise, before sharing more on the frequency of sewing 一有空就 (1) or frugal habits of mom 不喜欢花钱 (2).
Another telling clue you all never noticed:
B's surprise was on the fact A's mom knows how to 缝制. Notice (3) connects/rejoins with the same verb 缝制 too? In (1), 缝 was used instead.
缝制 = tailor-made versus 缝 = sew. -
I thought the key word was 还会. Implies that the student knows his classmate’s mother quite well enough to say: "Oh I didn’t know your mum additionally (on top of her other skills) knows how to sew!"
But i take back my earlier reply that SEAB confirmed in the Zaobao article that the answer is 3. SEAB only said must look at the whole conversation context. -
Finally, this is the PSLE week! So glad this week is finally here, and PSLE will be over by next Wed. As DS does not have a mobile phone, DH and I got a new mobile line and phone for him over the weekend. Last night, DS and I even searched online for a phone casing. So looking forward to giving him the phone once PSLE is over. A little present from daddy and mummy to celebrate his hard work and first major milestone :hugs: .

Great idea coz btwn time after DS exams, he can start learning to manage himself with the new gadget w/o going overboard. They'll need mobile access in sec sch anyway.
All the best for PSLE. Keep healthy. -
Final days to PSLE. Wondering if it is useful/effective/sufficient going through files and past mistakes?? Or any other strategies? Making own quick notes?
