      HenOnMars:
For my family, unfortunately, it has already almost impossible to give my daughter a SC status before P1 balloting. The best we can possibly get for her is a PR. We understand this will give her a great disadvantage competing with other SC kids, so hopefully we can target a right school and apply for a place of PV, a best school possible as a PR. Therefore, it is really appreciated if suggestions can be given on following questions to help us make a right decision.

      1) Do we have to move close to the school we apply for PV? Or will this increase the possibility of getting a place of PV?
      2) Does PR has an equal chance of getting a place of PV compared with SC?
      3) Does PR even stand a chance if applying PV at a school like Raffles Girls' primary(anyone body knows the PR/SC ratios among all current students)? How about River valley primary?
      4) What is the best school where a PR can stand a fairly good chance for a PV place? Any suggestion?

Thank you for all your answers in advance!
      :?:
As a PR, there's no point targeting popular schools like Raffles Girls as even SC might not have the chance to ballot. Even if you can do PV, you would do it in vain and you would only waste your precious time which you could use to do PV somewhere else. You should really go through the balloting history and pick a few schools that you're comfortable with, then check whether they have PV scheme as not all schools have it.

I mentioned raffles girls' primary and river valley primary, because it seems even a PR can secure a place on phase 2B from balloting history. However, I am not sure if it is because it is almost impossible for a PR to get a place of PV in the first place. I hope to understand this and decide which area I should move my family to for the next two years.

In theory - yes, even a PR can secure a place in Phase 2B based on balloting history. That’s because very few people qualified under Phase 2B, and PV places are being managed / controlled / limited by schools.

Accepting an applicant into the PV scheme is at the school’s discretion. While it’s not impossible for a PR to be accepted, in theory at least, it’s probably going to be difficult, especially when the schools you have listed are popular schools (with limited PV places up to grabs and a large pool of applicants).

              Hi HenOnMars,

Suggest you apply for Rgps (PV), under Phase 2B, if your daughter is a PR or Sg citizen.

Go to Rgps website, check when is the closing date, or call General Office (admin), for more detailed info. Also, can go to Rgps school website, check the past history of P1 registration.

Rgps Head of Parents Volunteer group will assess all PV applications submitted, after closing date, before inviting suitable candidates to come down for interview, if you are short-listed.

For PRs, from past recent 3 years :-
Under Phase 2C, absolutely zero chance, because Sg citizen children usually ballot, under more than 2 km distance range.

However, if come under an earlier Phase 2B, PRs may enter, as long as have vacancies remain.

Note that as a PV under 2B, nothing is guaranteed for your daughter to enter Rgps. Only when still got vacancies under 2B, then she can enter. This is a risk that all PVs undertake, regardless of which primary school they apply to. (not just Rgps)

All the best to your PV application, under Phase 2B

Hi! Anyone applied for Nanyang Pri PV for child born in 2013? Any idea when the results will be out? Website says Nov/Dec but school staff says maybe Jan/Feb next year.

                    Dear parents,

PV clocked hour is 52hrs already but the school haven’t said to stop yet and in fact even come out with new schedules until next year May.
So, it will be more than 80hrs. Anyone has similar experiences ?
                    Thank you.

Which school? If NYPS, the minimum is 80 hours.

You need to ask the school what is the minimum for them to issue the phase 2B letter. If they say 40 hours confirm will get the letter, then u need to ask them does clocking more hours put u higher up the wait list if balloted out. My school told me that verbally, so I put in the extra hours willingly.

(If your schedule really cannot cough up more hours, or it's been physically taxing on you, just let them know diplomatically.)

Thank you for the reply. It is Westwood primary school. They already mentioned that they will not like the way that parent stop at 40 hrs and appear only at P1 registration time. But didn’t mention how long they need it.
